After the release of "The last holy writer" (the sixth album by TREMBLING BLUE STARS), the stand alone "Exploring the shadows" EP has also a 7-inch counterpart, a luxuriant white vinyl 7-inch featuring two splendid songs.
The lead song, the sunny and melodic "Beautiful blank", is sung by Beth Arzy. In the form of an infectious, radio-friendly guitar pop song, it tells of an Edie Sedgwick-esque character and is titled after a phrase in Andy Warhol's book "From A To B". The version on the single is a special radio edit, which by being a bit shorter also guarantees a better fidelity in the sound you can hear from the vinyl.
The single is complete with a new previously unreleased B-side, "Say goodbye to the sea II", a new acoustic version of the song first featured on the last album.

Exploring the shadows [2007]

After the release of "The last holy writer" (the sixth album by TREMBLING BLUE STARS), the stand alone "Exploring the shadows" EP features, as always, many previously unreleased tracks. On its CD format you will find four exclusive songs that were recorded as part of the album sessions, and were treated with as much care and given as much time.
The lead song, the sunny and melodic "Beautiful blank", is sung by Beth Arzy. Bobby takes the lead vocal on another upbeat guitar pop track, "As easy as being alone", which goes back to the more melancholic and dreamy indie-pop style we have learnt to love from him.
The CD-EP is complete with the introspection meets experimentation of "Outside looking elsewhere", and the more experimental pastures of "And then silence", with its gloomy atmosphere and reverberated vocals. This last song ends up so abruptly ("and then silence") that you can't help but press 'play' and start again. And then again, and again. You're under the spell of the best pop music.

"The last holy writer" is the sixth album by TREMBLING BLUE STARS, thesecond one released worldwide through Elefant Records. This album is dark,intimate, melancholic and cloudy, but every now and then there are rays ofsunshine coming through the clouds, riding sunny melodic breezes. SLOWDIVE and THE CURE are still good references for this music, but they are toolimited to describe the unique sound of TREMBLING BLUE STARS, a sound that'sready to mingle melodic, sensitive pop with many electronic sounds,distortions, noises, static and even field recordings that envelope thesongs with a nostalgic halo. On one song, percussion is provided byfootsteps on dry branches and shingles, and on another song a recording of dawn on the Romney Marsh provides the backdrop. THE RAIN PARADE, MAZZY STAR and GALAXIE 500 come up here and there: on this album there's folk, andthere's electronica and 80's influences and avant country and, of course,there's the best pop music you can hear. There's no doubt you will fall inlove again with Bobby Wratten's music. They have hit the target again.

"The last holy writer" is the proof that one of the most influential bands in indie-pop is at its most creative, daring and inspired, now more concentrated than ever in writing the most beautiful popsongs you've heard for ages.

Bathed in blue extended play [2005]

"Bathed in blue" is the second single taken from the TREMBLING BLUE STARS's fifth long player, "The seven autumn flowers", although after checking the amount of new material they have added we must better talk about a new EP that goes perfectly along with the main album's sweetness and dreamy soundscapes. "Bathed in blue" is not your average single taken from an album, it's much more than that. The song they took from the album has been remixed, improved and even extended, and along with these two versions of the main track we find four totally new, previously unreleased songs, which make us hold our breath whilst mentioning BIRDIE, SLOWDIVE and THE CURE. With such references and this length, it is clear that we're talking about something bigger than just a single. We're talking about a record with a personality of its own. Bobby Wratten is feeling inspired, let's enjoy it.

The seven autumn flowers [2004]

On the fifth album by TBS, Bobby Wratten´s songs share the spirit of 70s songwriters such as JACKSON BROWNE (particularly on his most intimate and disheartening albums), or NICK DRAKE´s romanticism, along with a present day focus that adds synth-pop elements and a great deal of synth sounds (intelligently mixed with acoustic arrangements as in "If I handle you with care"), or melodic walls of sound as in "Moonlight on snow". On the production desk they are again assisted by Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE´s engineer and contributor). This is TBS´s first brand new material in three years, and this reflects in new territories such as the dub inflections in "The rhythm of your breathing", with a broken rhythm and bass lines of unequivocal Jamaican roots (they have invented indie-dub!), or in the open recognition of their post-punk roots, paying homage to THE CURE and 80´s music with "All eternal things". There´s a limited edition of this album in double 10", for vinyl lovers.

Advance single taken from the forthcoming fifth album by one of the most moving and beloved bands in the indie´s British scene, which Elefant has a great pleasure to release exclusively worldwide. This Cd-single includes "Helen Reddy" as main track, followed by four more previously unpublished songs ("A beginning of a kind", "Open skies", "Hurry home through the crowds" and "One wish granted"), which will not be included in the album "The seven autumn flowers" (to be released after summer). This is a superb sound document: a collection of songs that so far had only been included in the singles this British band had released throughout all its career. 17 songs rescued from limited edition singles or versions different to the album ones. 'A certain evening light' is a new miracle of delicate, subtle pop; songs always pervaded with the sweet melancholy Bob endows each of his creations: transparent guitars, arrangements full of good taste, Bob's serene and moving vocals, supported by the ethereal sweetness of Beth and Anne Mari's female backing vocals. Production tasks, as usual in TREMBLING BLUE STARS, are carried out by Ian Catt, who has usually worked with ST ETIENNE and some Elefant artists such as NOSOTRÄSH, CARLOS BERLANGA and NIZA. There's a hidden track not included in the credits: 'Christmas & Train-Trips & Things', which originally appeared in a Christmas sampler given as a freebie at a Shinkansen night.
