Later signed to Chemikal Underground, there was a lot of buzz around them in the Uk when this single was released. You must see the colour of the vinyl!

American pop singer-songwriter, sort of another eccentric Daniel Johnston, who recorded an album for Bus Stop before he passed to the fold of the not less prestigious Minty Fresh with the name THE ORANGE PEELS. For our Singles Club, he gives us two wonderful and sunny pills of timeless pop, like only Americans can do: well, they have had a tradition for decades.

They became known thanks to a dizzy demo and so very intense concerts. Purifyingly melodic pop to which Emily’s voice adds freshness, emotion and rage. “Suicide Mind” is a steamed recreation of fleeting and bruising rhythm, whereas “Out Of Season”, baroquely started, sails along a flow of turbid rhythmic bases.

First single of this French band incarnated in just one person; two songs moving between the coordinates of the best instrumental ambient. Intense rhythms, programmed sequences, relaxing techno spirals, repetitive landscapes and a constant experimentation. As well as INSIDES and DURUTTI COLUMN, THE VILLAGE searchs the introspection of the senses, a trip through unknown places filled up with elegance and mistery.

First thing that surprises of this NYC band is the harsh voice of their singer, a woman with so much in common with Natalie Merchant (10,000 MANIACS) in her most arid moments. Warm chorus, acoustic guitars, classic instrumentation dressed up with the best angles of the British pop. And yet, influenced by THROWING MUSES and COCTEAU TWINS.

Majorcans switched on the BEATLES, KINKS or DINOSAUR JR turbines. Their first single is a luxuriant variety of sonic possibilities. From the shaking “Johnny The Good”, with Jaime’s voice in pain committing tender crimes, to the out-of-control “Another Trip”, in the SUPERCHUNK’s style, an electric sample of teen ardor. Great indie rock with melodies and lots of vitamins. They’re big in Spain now!

The first demo of this band from León haunted more than one, and that’s why we couldn’t resist the temptation of publishing it the single format; an alive and tidy spring. Sometimes, it flows far from any kind of distortion, crossing a world of tenderness, some other times the guitars get stronger till reaching the point in which the delicate voice of Esther becomes solid. Stingy adorned pop. Four tracks predicting what was to come with their wonderful album.

This is an advance of our GALAXIE 500 tribute CD, featuring covers by HULA HOOP (USA), HOLIDAY FLYER (USA), PEQUEÑAS COSAS FURIOSAS (Spain) and VENUS PETER (Japan).

Highly influential band from Sevilla, playing two cover versions of legendary Spanish bands from the eighties: AVIADOR DRO and ILEGALES. They play in a very particular, surrealistic style, leaded by Antonio Luque’s deep voice. No doubt they are one of the best bands in Spain.

A new indie-punk-pop jewel with sixties style and “heavenly”, unconcerned backing vocals.

Firstly they were on Noisebox, then on Sarah Records before they went back to the Noisebox fold. Meanwhile this British band (not to be confused with their NYC namesakes) gave us these three songs for our Singles Club: between COCTEAU TWINS’ gothic obscurity and HEAVENLY’s poppy clarity, with DINOSAUR Jr’s angry guitar playing.

After several Lp’s and singles in the Wonder Release Records label, the Japanese VENUS PETER, after the incomparable sonic decadence that PRIMAL SCREAM suffered after “Screamadelica”, take the relay. They drown in the stonian cave in which others failed, suppurating sadness, craving, 70’s morbidness ornated with catchy rhythms, shining due to strong or sweetened guitars, the right thing for destroying the dance floor.

The most ultracool band from Jaén came back with a second single, prior to their debut Lp, “Cesárea”, and with two songs in it: “Sixty” and “Jealous Guy”, a wonderful cover of the John Lennon’s classic that you can only find in this format. An acoustic start followed by a small discharge that never gets to explode, they retard their rhythm and play to hurt rhythmical but impressively.

Second single of these Americans and there’s no blind spot in it! Drowned with their characteristic joviality, it sweats optimism all over it. Four songs much connected with THE BEATLES, AZTEC CAMERA and THE JAM, much of wantonness and much of shining happiness. As expressive as the FRANK & WALTERS, their world is a hyperbole of throwing and effective pop.

They surprised everybody with an unusual instrumentation and big doses of sickened humour.
