ER-1152 Bla "La mejor enfermedad"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

The best youth: L-KAN have given color to those interminable nights on the best techno-pop dance floors Madrid has to offer with albums like “Cosas Que Miden Poco” and “Discazo”. But the moment arrives to change direction, to open new doors, to try new things, and the irreverent immediacy turns into uncontainable restlessness. Luis and Belén (huge activists of the Madrid night-life, responsible for clubs like Ocho y Medio and Elástico) decide to form BLA (an L-KAN parallel project) to let loose all of those things that are going on in their heads, with music geared toward a more organic sound with slightly sharper lyrics. The first result of all this is “La Mejor Enfermedad”, an album that finds its two composers with much clearer ideas, with a new proposal in their hands, and with a highly uncommon ability with arrangements and melodies. From the fantasy of “Cómo Seremos” to the irreverence of “Los Ex-novios”, from the delicacy of “Yo Soy Como Portugal” to the introspection of “Mira Lo Que Se Oye Cuando Estamos Callados”. From the totally obvious reference to the dance floor in “Siempre Hay Una Más” to the perfectionist pop of “La Canción Que Nunca Llegó a Serlo”. Luis and Belén have brought us something refreshing, original, new, and above all fun, assimilating their inheritance of those who are most representative of Spanish-sung pop: LOS FRESONES REBELDES, ASTRUD, FAMILY, CARLOS BERLANGA, CHICO Y CHICA and more. Everyone will be talking about BLA and their great sickness.

ER-1147 VV.AA. "Yo, también [Me too]"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

“Yo, También” [Me too] is the full length film debut of Álvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro and it is one of the projects we have been involved in this past year with “Elefant Music Supervision”, a project that has been taking shape over time and that has the singular goal of helping and collaborating on audiovisual projects of all types, and to give musical supervision from Elefant that would help the creators’ find the perfect music for their work. Álvaro and Antonio’s recent visit to the San Sebastian Film Festival was a total success, two Silver Conches, for Best Actor for Pablo Pineda and for Best Actress for Lola Dueñas. Lola Dueñas (a renowned and prestigious actress, winner of a Goya for her role in Alejandro Amenábar’s movie “Mar Adentro” (The Sea Inside) and nominated for Pedro Almodóvar’s “Volver”), recently stated in an interview, “When I finish a movie, I forget about it, but I’d never experienced before putting on the music from the soundtrack, like this time”. The music plays such an important role in the movie and the musical selection turned out to be so varied and enriching. Guille Milkyway (LA CASA AZUL) was responsible for creating small musical brushstrokes especially for the movie. The soundtrack is atypical with simple, bare pieces, based on emotionally charged piano melodies that can just as easily express the greatest happiness as they can sink into the deepest sadness and frustration. Guille was also in charge of the movie’s theme song, a 70s style rumba, “Yo, También”, somewhere along the lines of the first recordings by LAS GRECAS or LOS AMAYA, but with that magical touch that our great master’s compositions are full of. There is a lot of music in the movie, as much music as there are characters and situations. Quiet moments, sweet, quotidian, romantic, sad, exciting, fun, crazy, partying, totally out of control… there is music to fit every moment and all together it makes a perfect soundtrack for understanding the movie. Guille’s rumba and MANZANITA’s “Te amaré” give that Spanish touch to the movie, which takes place mostly in Sevilla, but the soundtrack also has the delicate songs of Wales’ THE SCHOOL, the magnetism of CAMERA OBSCURA, the Italian romanticism of GIORGIO TUMA and FITNESS FOREVER, the delicacy of BMX BANDITS, the timeless folk-pop of Nick Garrie and RÓZSÄK and the strength and rhythm of LA CASA AZUL, SOUVENIR, BEEF, and THE GENTLE PEOPLE, among others.

ER-1146 Linda Guilala "Bucles Infinitos"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

Yeah, JUNIPER MOON were among the most capable composers of the punk-pop pills that have ever existed in Spanish lands, and their international effect corroborates this. But the thing is that JUNIPER MOON haven’t existed for over 4 years (although, it must be said, that their flame still burns in our hearts, proof being the compilation that will soon be released in Japan). From the ashes of that unforgettable group rose LINDA GUILALA, three years ago. Iván and Eva threw themselves into the composition of songs whose modus operandi is their immediacy. The songs are just as addictive, maintaining that incredible freshness in the melodies, with the best of the pop tradition of bands from the Spanish new wave like ALASKA Y LOS PEGAMOIDES and LOS ZOMBIES, with the insolent energy of HELEN LOVE, and that passion for dense, captivating textures of groups like THE CHARLOTTES, LUSH or PALE SAINTS. We are finally lucky enough to have their debut album, “Bucles Infinitos”, in our hands. The album is a demonstration of a way of understanding pop that few have managed to express at such a level. They know how to balance youthful energy, twee passion tending toward the most classic pop, the lightest techno-pop with that unavoidable touch of punk, and above all that hazy shine of the shoegaze atmosphere, which all together give way to an authentic treatise for lovers of the melodic genre above all else. It reminds us of LOS PEGAMOIDES, as well as the first albums by LUSH, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, RIDE, by those groups that made us vibrate so much at the beginning of the nineties, but the energy that LINDA GUILALA puts into this “Bucles Infinitos”, those guitars with appearing and disappearing distortion effects as far as they can push them, Eva’s choruses, the keyboards… make this disc something really special. The songs of LINDA GUILALA know how to play with pop and melancholy, with speed and introversion, with textures and melodies, and in the end they simply leave you with the feeling of having listened to a handful of tremendously addictive pop compositions like your ears had never heard before. Try it.

ER-1145 Stereo Total "No controles"

  12€  [CD]     12€  [LP]

What could have been an album of the Berlin-based duo’s most prized songs revisited in Spanish (this isn’t the first time they have shown their passion for singing in various languages, like French, German, English, Italian, Turkish or Japanese), has ended up also including a small yet incredible collection of versions, the majority of which are exquisitely selected from the Spanish pop songbook of the last decades. And after more than 15 years giving us addictive pieces of the best Electro-pop (with touches of Punk, Disco, New wave and Garage), Françoise Cactus and Brezel Göring couldn’t approach this furtive and agile look back differently: unprejudiced, with a mischievous attitude and above all enormously fun and enjoyable. This is how we should take the revision of songs like “No Controles” from OLE OLE, “Voy a Ser Mamá” by ALMODOVAR and McNAMARA (electro-punk band of film director Pedro Almodovar at the beginning of the 80’s), and “C’est Fini” by LA CASA AZUL. It is surprising to be able to listen to these songs oozing through the STEREO TOTAL filter and sung in Spanish with that familiar French accent. And what’s more, we have the occasion to enjoy songs from all of the stages of the group again, including two songs from THE LOLITAS (the group that Françoise made her name with in the middle of the 80s, and who released four albums in France and Germany). “Wir tanzen im 4-Eck” is now “Bailamos en Cuadrado”, “Everybody in The Discotheque (I Hate)” is rebaptized as “Todo El Mundo en La Discoteca”, “Plus Minus Null” is “Más Menos Cero” and their incredible “L’amour à 3” is “Amo Amor a Tres”. What this means is, we are witnessing a reinvention, an ephemeral rebirth; a different language, songs in different forms (many of them mutate most curiously)… All of this is effected with that rebellious and non-conformist attitude, accentuated by a surprising touch of rock’n roll and with the guarantee of one of the best contemporary hit-makers. As if looking back were just an illusion, a way of thinking in order to live the present more intensely. An abundant banquet, an unrepeatable menu, with sophisticated French aromas, the strength of German raw materials, and that sunny seasoning of the Mediterranean diet, all loaded with spice, Tabasco and cayenne. A musical orgy, barbaric, ruffian, in which sex plays an important role again, where KRAFTWERK practice a libidinous game with the Welsh masses, and the RAMONES declare a pillow fight with Plastic Bertrand, while URSULA 1000 plays songs in a stellar bacchanal. And since it couldn’t be any other way, STEREO TOTAL return to compel and surprise us, making their own path, ignoring all the known and unknown rules, destroying the concept of the compilation, adapting it to what they want, to what appeals to them, giving us the gift of so much hedonism and lust for life. **There´s a limited edition of this album for vinyl lovers. ER-1144 La Casa Azul "La nueva Yma Sumac [What the Revolution Left Us]"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

“The sexual revolution” left us with unforgettable moments, a never-before dreamed of happiness, and an endless feeling of pleasure. The concerts were authentic exaltations of uncontrolled happiness, collective madness and a truly therapeutic release. LA CASA AZUL’s newest work is a gift for fans, a small souvenir that closes the magical era. LA CASA AZUL’s new journey is still full of fantasy – a fantasy that begins in their new video, “La Nueva Yma Sumac”, an incredible piece by the great master Duprez (responsible also for the album design) and a team made up of true fans of the group. It is an ambitious project that makes this video unique and unprecedented in the history of music videos and animation in our country, and that will undoubtedly be talked about outside of our borders as well. Some of Guille Milkyway’s most admired personalities have unconditionally given themselves to “La Revolucion Sexual” and collaborated on this disc, making it the most international project yet by LA CASA AZUL.. Françoise (STEREO TOTAL) sings a new version of “La Recolucion Sexual” in German, which Guille rerecorded almost entirely. Guille himself was in charge of the vocals in English and the exquisite Yeongene does her thing on the Korean version. Guille and Duglas T Steward (BMX BANDITS) share vocals on “Bad boys”, the English version of “Chicos Malos”, which is also a heart-felt homage to Chris Montez, and THE APRILS remix “La Nueva Yma Sumac”, singing it in Japanese. Inspired by HELEN LOVE’s “Jump Up & Down”, Guille constructed an authentic dance hit that is not lacking in small homages and references to Plastic Bertran, 50’s rock and roll and of course surf, one of their great passions. The disc includes three versions - Joan Manuel Serrat’s “Señora”, THE JACKSON FIVE’s “I Want You Back” and “Love Is in the Air” by John Paul John - and it closes with four live songs taken from one of their last concerts in Barcelona. It’s a special, limited edition disc that also contains a data track with the video for “La Nueva Yma Sumac” (in Spanish and Japanese), and screen savers for computers and mobile phones.

ER-1143 Cooper "Aeropuerto"

  12€  [CD Digipak]     12€  [LP]

After three new singles (two sold out their printing instantly, after remaining at the top of the sales lists for several weeks) and five more years, Alejandro Díez’s third album as the front man of COOPER arrives. These new full-length dates with the group are going to become those necessary moments of reflection and inflection in a career that is propelled forward by songs like rockets headed out of this stratosphere. Songs cooked on a slow flame, far from the rules of the industry but close to the passions of the public that is so loyal and inspirational to a pop genius, after over 20 years playing our stages, back then as the front man of LOS FLECHAZOS. This compilation of songs, now that they’re all together, and with the added bonus of indispensable new songs (“Hyde Park” is amazing, maybe the most direct and uncontestable hit Alejandro has written since COOPER began, “Lisboa” is a delicious psychedelic rara avis within the artist’s discography, “El Sueño” is a marvelous version of an early NACHA POP and “La Edad de La Inocencia” is a new cinephile reference, this time to the Martin Scorsese film, set to a power-pop rhythm) offers the vision of an artist who celebrates compositional maturity, with a sound close to the classics (THE BYRDS, THE HOLLIES, THE ZOMBIES…) as well as to contemporaries (TEENAGE FAN CLUB, VELVET CRUSH, WEEZER…) and who sees his musical career more than ever as a journey, with thousands of marvelous moments still to come, like “El Círculo Polar”, “Canción de Viernes” or “Un Dia de Furia”, to name a few, have been recently. And the only thing that’s certain, as Alex himself explains in the album-liner notes, is that there are still many ports to visit, many places to discover, many spaces to inhabit. And if these are the songs that promise to accompany us in our journey, we can do nothing but spread our wings and go with him to the pop paradises.

ER-1142 La Bien Querida "Romancero"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

LA BIEN QUERIDA’s album is one of the most anxiously awaited Spanish indie-pop albums in recent years. And it’s because the word fell in love with her demo (chosen by Mondo Sonoro as the best of 2007, highlighted in Rockdelux and listened to thousands of times on myspace, where their page is one of the most visited new artist pages). LA BIEN QUERIDA, which is to say, Ana Fernández-Villaverde, turned to David Rodríguez (BEEF) to record her debut (7 songs from the demo and 5 new ones), attracted to him for the marvelous creativity of his solo project LA ESTRELLA DE DAVID. Ana wanted to domesticate David’s stratospheric arrangements and cubist production toward clean sounds that fit better with the friendly environment of her beautiful songs. And she really did it. David’s inventive magic and Ana’s sweet melodies meld together to make an exclusive space in which flamenco, Arabian music, rancheras and even techno mix. They didn’t hold back at all (they work with the ORQUESTA ARAB DE BARCELONA, a flamenco guitarist, even Joe Crepúsculo on vocals). But those are only the colors of the songs, which do not distract from their principal component: a marvelous collection of exciting vocal melodies, with an overwhelming beauty and interesting lyrics that strip down relationships and bare feelings with moving sincerity. The album follows the harmonic line of LOS PLANETAS, the charming sweetness of LA BUENA VIDA and the contagious romanticism of FAMILY, but really it creates a unique space. Maybe the clearest parallel can be drawn with THE MAGNETIC FIELD’s monumental “69 Love Songs”, with songs that appear simple on the surface but have a highly defined character and artistic personality that escapes all styles, or maybe it brings them all together without us realizing it. And, as on “69 Love Songs”, what is truly important is the emotion that the songs transmit. “Corpus Christi”, “De Momento Abril”, “Santa Fe”, “El Zoo Absoluto”, “Bendita”, “7 Medidas de Seguridad”... it’s a chilling repertoire that can be enjoyed as much in the emotion-flooded open heart as in the detail-oriented head, paying attention to the musical details that fill the production. It is, without a doubt, a landmark album.

ER-1141 Cola Jet Set "Guitarras y tambores"

  12€  [CD Digipak]     12€  [LP]

It has been a long wait, but we can finally enjoy the new, long-awaited album from COLA JET SET; it is the second in their career and their first with Elefant. The time, in addition to definitively solidifying the line-up of Ana (LA MONJA ENANA), Felipe (LOS FRESONES REBELDES, LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE), Joan, Alicia and Cristina (LOS FRESONES REBELDES), has also allowed the group to purify its sound, bringing it closer to a classic pop with clear sixties influences (Jackie De Shannon, THE RONETTES, THE BYRDS...) but they have also enriched it with small stylistic intoxications that came up along the way: soul, disco, psychedelic pop, soft-pop… Because of all this, the album is classic pop through and through. Its melodies and arrangements are inspired by the greats of the genre. Its freshness and vitality take charge on an album full of emotions. But above all, pop isn’t itself if it isn’t perverted by other styles, other influences, other horizons. Let’s celebrate, then, that COLA JET SET have come back to stay and to definitively be one of the best pop groups in Spanish that has come out of this country. There´s a limited edition of this album for vinyl lovers. [Pink Panther colour vinyl]

ER-1140 Nick Garrie "49 Arlington Gardens"

  12€  [CD Digipak]     12€  [LP]

“49 Arlington Gardens” is the album that musical history uses to pay its dues to Nick Garrie. There are many reasons for it to be so. The marvelous recording sessions in Scotland, sponsored by Ally Kerr and that included such great names as Norman Blake (TEENAGE FANCLUB), Francis McDonald (NICE MAN, TEENAGE FANCLUB, BMX BANDITS), Duglas T. Stewart (BMX BANDITS) producing, and Duncan Cameron (DELGADOS, TRAVIS, TRASHCAN SINATRAS) as sound engineer, with the still less famous DOGHOUSE ROSES, Spain’s Sandra Belda Martínez (CALIFORNIA SNOW STORY, SUPERÉTÉ), Rachel Allison, Iona McDonald and many other musicians from the Scottish indie pop scene. An astonishing collection of great compositions, with gems like “Twilight,” “Le pont Mirabeau,” “When Evening Comes” and “When the Child in You,” and a deeply romantic song like “Lovers,” written with Francis Lai (responsible for such historic soundtracks as “A Man and A Woman” and “Love Story”). The fact that “The Nightmare of J.B. Stanislas,” the cursed disc released in 1969 that barely saw the light of day and that today has become a collector’s item, is receiving this small moment of glory that it was robbed of by chance when it was first released.. And above all, a singer-songwriter, Nick Garrie, with a precious voice full of solemnity and a classic pop feeling, in the best sense of the word, enjoying a moment of brilliant inspiration. It’s one of those discs that sees the light of day thanks to the support of a new generation of musicians, admirers of the British singer-songwriter. It’s an honest, intimate, elegant, precocious disc that maintains a marvelous balance between arrangements and melodies. Just under thirty minutes of dreamy compositions, of pop and tight folk that deals humbly and candidly with human nature with the surprising element of juvenile fantasy that is “The Clockmaker". There´s a limited edition of this album for vinyl lovers.

ER-1139 Fitness Forever "Personal Train"

  12€  [CD Digipak]     12€  [LP]

FITNESS FOREVER is a surprising Italian quartet that is making its full-length debut with "Personal Train", a marvelous pop album that draws together an immense quantity of influences with marvelous taste, the work of musicians who have an extraordinary ability with the fibers of the most precious and elegant pop: from modern points of reference like LA CASA AZUL (Guille is one of their most unconditional fans), CINERAMA, THE HIGH LLAMAS, Richard Hawley, BELLE & SEBASTIAN, THE POLYPHONIC SPREE or even LE MANS, to other classics like Bacharach, Michel Legrand, THE BEACH BOYS, THE COWSILLS, THE FREE DESIGN or Gladys Knight, and last but not least, the Italians: Rita Pavone, Ennio Morricone, Nico Fidenco, Gino Paoli, Piero Umiliani or Mina. All of this comes together in a huge album whose composition (in the style of the songwriters of the sixties, after hours in the studio) kept them locked in the studio for more than a year putting it all together, achieving an album that is full of life, full of grand pop melodies and marvelous arrangements with the utmost care in every detail. It's one of those albums that each time you listen you discover new shades and sounds, and that introduces us to Carlos Valderrama, a name that we will probably be hearing a lot in the coming years, who is capable of bringing together classic sounds with vision. And as you know, exercise: it's highly recommendable for the pop spirits. Here you have your personal trainers. There´s a limited edition of this album for vinyl lovers. [White vinyl]

ER-1138 Modular "Fantasías de un robot psicodélico"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

Space-pop and psychedelia? Ed Wood and Burt Bacharach? LE MANS and STEREOLAB? Science-fiction and lounge music? Stories about robots and magnificent orchestral arrangements? George Gershwin analogical synthesizers? Where have you ever seen such a cocktail? “Fantasías de Un Robot Psicodélico”, the debut album from MODULAR, Argentine duo founded by Mariana Badaracco and Pablo Dahy in 2000, pulls all this together and much more, in an experiment that identifies them as one of the most peculiar bands in recent years. Fruit of recovering some of the songs included on the four demos they’ve released over their more than nine years of existence, “Fantasías de Un Robot Psicodélico” is an exercise in spatial and colorful pop that is bright and optimistic and is the worthy heir of the Space Age Bachelor Pad Music led by Mexico’s Juan García Esquivel in the late fifties. Songs like “Perdidos en El Espacio”, “Playa Biquini”, “Hombre Hormiga” or “Flasheando” show their knowledge of science-fiction, B-series, the sixties’ spatial, psychedelic esthetic, the sophistication and elegance of Henry Mancini, as well as their mastery of arrangements, the analogical playfulness of bands as far in time but as close in spirit as THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, THE HIGH LLAMAS or BROADCAST. They are the vertex of a personal and unique sound, addictive and simultaneously surprising and groundbreaking. And the thing is, we never imagined that a robot could have such incredible fantasies.

ER-1137 Giorgio Tuma "My vocalese fun fair"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

So much time gazing out over the Atlantic, observing Salvador de Bahia from the other side of the ocean, when it turns out that the most exotic sun shines on this side of the Mediterranean, in Italy, where Giorgio Tuma has just released his second, marvelous album, “My Vocalese Fun Fair”. Starting with fibers as solid as the delicacy of Caetano Veloso at his most Bahian, the elegance of Burt Bacharach, the jazzy approximations of Antonio Carlos Jobim, the circus-like psychedelia of the BEATLES at their highest, the Californian soft pop and a touch of sweet soul in the style of Terry Callier or Marvin Gaye, Giorgio Tuma builds a source of imagination with “My Vocalese Fun Fair” that makes his inseparable band mates, OS TUMANTES (as a tribute to the Brazilian psychedelic pop group OS TUMANTES), reach their highest level. This album is able to bring together the different influences of all these artists and fit them together with their own personality. Sunny melodies, bright arrangements, a production with echoes of the sixties, deep Brazilian influences, and above all, a highly inspired artist with clear colorful inclinations, as the album cover, designed by the internationally renowned artist, Davide Zucco, perfectly portrays. And the lysergic aspect, the one required by music with so many tonalities, the one which painted the submarine yellow, is found in lyrics that are authentic space voyages, a spirit that is perfectly defined in the lyrics of “Musical Express”, where it says “I’ve singable dreams”. Giorgio Tuma is the artist that turned the daily journey of the summer sun into music. But it is not a yellow, monotonal or monotone sun, but a sun that has a complex shine, complete, full of nuances, one we believe in and that, as such, manages to irremediably affect our state of mind. Giorgio Tuma, the man who turned the colors into notes.

ER-1136 Corazón "Nuevo Futuro"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

Their second album demonstrates a solid maturity. “Nuevo Futuro” shines with the fantastic production of Ibon Errazkin, who is responsible for other classic albums on the Elefant label like NOSOTRÄSH’s “Popemas”, Carlos Berlanga’s “Impermeable”, ANA D’s “Satelite 99” or the albums of SINGLE and LE MANS. Additionally, there are stellar collaborations from Teresa Iturrioz (SINGLE) and Malela Durán (NOSOTRÄSH, GRANDE-MARLASKA) on the choruses, or Rafael Guillermo of POP TOPS on the piano. Errazkin achieves a jeweled masterpiece with varied and distinct sounds and original textures, looking for spaces to make the songs special with details and extraordinary arrangements. But the best thing about the album are the twelve superb songs. The compositions are outside the limits of any one style, they are full of elegance and good taste – delicious pop with charming harmonies that could sound like standard light music with someone else’s voice. It’s all feeling, with beautiful and sincere lyrics. CORAZÓN dares to make classic melodic pop, bolero-pop and sentimental melodrama; they reinvent the artistic spirit of VAINICA DOBLE with their own originality and baroque arrangements and give us radiant soul-pop hymns worthy of LA CASA AZUL. It’s an album that will go down in history as one of the great classics of Elefant records.

ER-1135 La Monja Enana "Humo y Espejos"

  6€  [CD Digipak]

LA MONJA ENANA is not your typical group with a defined path. Throughout their long, and at times, slower than usual career, they have played in Sweden, Russia, Paris and they put out a compilation in France and Mexico. The band has also been Single of the Week in Melody Maker. All of this happened without much effort from the group. LA MONJA ENANA is relaxed because they know that every once in awhile, without having to move a finger, something un-heard of happens and changes their career. Perhaps its largely due to their scientific-literary-paranormal theme in their music or it could simply be that when you listen to their music without preconceived notions, you appreciate all of the wonderful tunes with a catchy melody, a crystal and natural voice, together with surprising sounds. The fact is, LA MONJA ENANA has numerous fans in Spain anxiously awaiting for the release of their album, “Humo y Espejo.” We are folks who sell out their concerts, sing along to their songs and know the perfect gestures which go along with each line.  We understand the references of Philip K. Dick and Jack Clayton in their older songs and with their brand new songs, we’ll catch on to the references of Lemony Snicket in “Café Kafka” and of Jorgen Leth in “Humano Perfecto.” We are people who admire how all of this may convert into a song and sound so great, catchy and melancholic at the same time. We are people who are elated that a group like LA MONJA ENANA exists, because, someone finally has written a song like “Heróes del Pasado” about the glorious oldies and because they dare with one of the most unusual songs by Jonathan Richman, “I’m a Little Dinosaur,” offered as a bonus track on the album. ER-1134 BMX Bandits "The Rise & Fall of BMX Bandits"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

There are few figures as representative of the Scottish pop sound as Duglas T. Stewart and his BMX BANDITS (who have had members of THE VASELINES, TEENAGE FANCLUB and THE SOUP DRAGONS pass through their midst). They have a cult status, are admired by all kinds of artists (even the Gallagher brothers and the very Kurt Cobain were part of their fan club); their way of using pop as a medium to transcend styles, epochs and trends has been an example to follow for generations of bands like TEENAGE FANCLUB, NICE MAN, THE WEDDING PRESENT, CAMERA OBSCURA and many more. Here at Elefant, we have always greatly admired them and have tried to show what we admire about them through a catalog full of hard to find songs, singles and EPs, which have been published on independent labels half the world over. Which is why we are doubly congratulating ourselves now. First, for being able to increase our catalog with one of their albums. And second, because this album lets us recover many of those lost songs (some even unreleased). Yes, “The Rise & Fall of BMX Bandits” is a compilation. It has those great hits like “Disco Girl”, “Your Class” and “Whirlpool”, but it’s not a greatest hits album. It has hard to find songs and B-sides, but it’s not a compilation of B-sides and hard to find songs. It is simply a BMX Bandits album, with songs chosen by Duglas T Stewart himself, a new way of dealing with the best pop possible. And even the impossible, too.

ER-1133 Les Très Bien Ensemble "Rougeole"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

Many of us were left mesmerized by the precious melodies and the elegant pop which "Doux-amer" had, LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE’s debut album from three years ago. After an intense period and recent change in lineup with the incorporation of Charles Gasqué, the second awaited album of the Catalonian band, "Rougeole", has arrived. "The title, "Rougeole" (“measles” in French) makes reference to something that only time can heal. Time means life and death all at once, something out of human control which inexplicably advances to a particular destiny. "Rougeole" talks about the end of a vital stage, from disappointments to obsessions and desires, from hope to desperation, from excitement to anguish, reliance, nostalgia and indifference.” There is no better way to describe an album which finely depicts the most human and exciting details to talk about the contradiction of existing, always with an upbeat tone and vital hope, characteristics which describe each one of the songs of "Rougeole". An album that Françoise Hardy would adore and Jacques Brel would save a special place on his CD rack for and Serge Gainsbourg would give to Jane Birkin, and THE BYRDS would pack this album to help pass the time in the tour van. The best part is that all of these influences, all classical, sober and inspired, LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE formed their own plan, within the same distance from the past as the present, but above all, full of personality. There is a reason that time is the protagonist of this fantastic second album, "Rougeole".

ER-1132 Speedmarket Avenue "Way better now"

  9€  [CD Digipak]     9€  [LP]

It’s hard to imagine a better declaration of principles than the first phrase that you read on the website of the Swedes SPEEDMARKET AVENUE; it’s a self-definition which goes as follows “a pop music collective led by a little guy who looks like a cross between Charles Manson and Marc Bolan.” The fact of the matter is that this Swedish band is going to be, without a doubt, one of the musical references of 2008 for all POP lovers in capital letters, with a perfect concept of melody, putting them in the same ballpark as THE AISLERS SET and THE FAIRWAYS; jangle-pop with precious wind arrangements, played with freshness and emotion. Their second album, “Way Better Now,” produced by Jari Haapalainen (member of HEIKKI and THE BEAR QUARTET, but also producer of ED HARCOURT, INTERNATIONAL NOISE CONSPIRACY, THE CONCRETES and CAMERA OBSCURA, with whom these Swedes collaborated on their last album, “Let’s Get Out of This Country” ) is a demonstration of inspiration of a band able to aim in the same way the girl-groups of the 50’s did (THE RONETTES in “The State of Harmony”) and the shoegazers (“Sirens” evokes memories of SLOWDIVE), managing immediately with intelligent melodies, intensity and textures ("Way better now," "Accident" and "Don’t fall in love" are inevitable singles). In conclusion, similar as to how one can read a book over and over again in different ways, the new CD allows the listener to apply his or her own form of listening to the album: the patient way, the urgent, immediate, energetic or melancholic way...This richness is what makes the second album of SPEEDMARKET AVENUE so grand. ER-1131 La Casa Azul "La revolución sexual"

  12€  [CD Digipak]     12€  [LP]

With this album, Guille Milkyway makes a big step forward in the evolution of his sound and the concept of one of the more successful records we have ever released in Elefant Records. Musically, the songs are based in the same patterns that turned them into world cult artists: melodic pop songs, with catchy choruses that are easy to strum and singalong. High class pop music, that here shows itself as intentionally artificial, more made in Shibuya than ever. Songs are here maybe more complex than before, but always keeping the timeless classic pop influence that, along with its coups d'effect, sudden changes and surprising twists, describe the magical touch of the songs by LA CASA AZUL. In the music by LA CASA AZUL live together without any problems 50's doo wop and 60's easy listening and 60’s bubblegum, 80's technopop, 70's disco and 90's shibuya-key and europop; references to such different yet close bands and artists as ELO, PILOT, Hugo Montenegro, PIZZICATO FIVE, Jean-Jacques Perrey, DENIM, Jacno, Enoch Light, Lio, Silvetti, The Jetset, Scoobydoo... Or to mention more contemporary names: APRILS, YMCK, PLUS TECH SQUEEZE BOX, CAPSULE, Andreas Dorau, STEREOTOTAL, HELEN LOVE, THE GO! TEAM, THE BRAN FLAKES, SCISSOR SISTERS, OPTIGANALLY YOURS... ER-1130 Serpentina "Planeando en tu azotea"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

"Planeando en tu Azotea" is a cd, musically speaking, more luminous, direct and immediate, perhaps less Baroque than their last album, with the majority of songs hardly going over two minutes of duration, following the norms of classical pop. As always, in the proposal of the Tamarit siblings, we find references to popular music across the decades, from easy listening (Ennio Morricone, Henry Mancini, Antón García Abril, Esquivel, Augusto Algueró), soft pop (Margo Guryan, LOVE GENERATION, OCTOBER COUNTRY, CHAD AND JEREMY, HARPERS BIZARRE), folk pop (THE GENTLE SOUL, PETER PAUL AND MARY, THE SEEKERS), bossanova pop (Claudine Longet, Chris Montez), psychedelic pop (THE BEATLES, Syd Barret, SAGITTARIUS) even French pop (Coralie Clément, Françoise Hardy, Marie Laforêt), melodic Italian pop (Pino Donaggio, Fabrizio De André) and above all, Spanish pop from the 60's and 70's (VAINICA DOBLE, SOLERA, JOSÉ Y MANUEL, NUEVOS HORIZONTES, Cecilia). Moreover, the new work catches glimpses of soundtracks by Danny Elfman and the music of Él Records (Louis Philippe), passing over North American bands from the 90's such as THE LEGENDARY JIM RUIZ GROUP and Scandinavian pop (early CARDIGANS, CLOUDBERRY JAM, SUPER). Therefore, in songs like “El Universo” or “Ven, Siéntate” we can delight in pop from the sixties, while in songs like “Yo que Hago Aquí” we taste the folkier aromas. “Tan Fácil” is delicious soft pop and “Dos o Tres Meses” and “Querido Miedo” are samples of the best Swedish pop. On the Baroque and cinematographic sides, we have “No Sé Por Qué” and “Mañana,” songs which introduce us to an ambitious group with a proposal completely original, one that distinguishes this band from the other musical artists of this country.

ER-1129 Helen Love "It's my club and I'll play what I want to"

  12€  [CD Digipak]     12€  [LP]

"I will never forget the interstellar high I got when I first bought and played “Punk boy” by HELEN LOVE, their third single, on my record player. The first time the needle made contact with the single, it became my single of preference of all time. Although this was more than 10 years ago, it’s still my favourite. I finally discovered what it was like to not be alone in the world knowing that there were other people out there who understood punk, who “got” the RAMONES, who appreciated bubblegum the same way that I did and would never want it to cease to exist. Each and every HELEN LOVE album gives me another chance to experience this instant euphoria over and over because their albums still tend to be the best albums of the year. The new songs could all possibly be immediate classics. Jam-packed with colourful pop icons and brilliant endless nostalgic memories of the history of pop: 60’s bubblegum pop personified, the omnipresent Joey Ramone, a tribute to “Jet” by the WINGS, referencing Rodney Bingenheimer and countless others.  The product has scintillating melodies, poetic fun, biting guitars and playful synthesizers.  Although it sounds like such a cliché, I must say that the new HELEN LOVE album sounds just like HELEN LOVE. Without a doubt, this makes the latest HELEN LOVE release, my album of the year". Text by Guille Milkyway [LA CASA AZUL] There´s a limited edition of this album for vinyl lovers. ER-1128 Ana D "Satélite 99 [Tenth anniversary special edition]"

  9€  [Double-CD Digipak]

In October it will be ten years since we released one of the most uniquerecords we know of. A kind of cosmic-melodic chanson that had never been done before and hasn't been done ever since. Ana D has become since then a legendary name, and we want to celebrate the tenth anniversary of her only official album as it deserves: with a full re-release that rises to its condition of lost classic album, joining an extra bonus album. Today, "Satélite 99" sounds as fascinatingly weird and beautiful as it didthen. On this album Ana D and her companions, producers and arrangers(Ibon Errazkin and Javier Corcobado) used vintage instruments and forgottenbeat boxes to create their own kind of "acoustic synth-pop", with referencesthat ranged from Kurt Weill and Serge Gainsbourg to Astrud Gilberto and SUICIDE. Since the very moment when it was released, the album received unanimous acclaim: Dean Wareham (GALAXIE 500, LUNA, Dean & Britta) chose the album among his favourites that year, and international film star Pedro Almodóvar chose a song by Ana D to be included in a personal compilation. The album was also released in Argentina and in the USA. On an American tour Ana and Ibon recorded a live session for renowned LA radio show "Morning Becomes Eclectic" (other artists recording sessions on those dates were THE FLAMING LIPS, Billy Bragg or THE BETA BAND). Those songs, naked skeletons that had the only accompaniment of Ibon's elegant, folkie guitar playing, are now available as the core of the extra record with which we enhance this very special re-release: apart from the five songs from that radio session, on this new candy for the fans we have featured the two songs recorded by Ana D for our Singles Club, and the three songs she recorded in 2003 with Sergio Fernández (Kamamuri). An already known track of her own ("Andrómeda") and two cover versions, one of fellow Elefant recording artists (and fellow one-album-wonders) FAMILY and a previously unreleased version of Brazilian singer Roberto Carlos. The perfect gift to go along with a record that after ten years keeps hypnotizing its listeners with its timeless magic. Don't be afraid of magic and dive deep in it, you won't regret it.

ER-1126 Trembling Blue Stars "The last holy writer"

  12€  [CD Digipak]     12€  [Double-LP]

"The last holy writer" is the sixth album by TREMBLING BLUE STARS, thesecond one released worldwide through Elefant Records. This album is dark, intimate, melancholic and cloudy, but every now and then there are rays ofsunshine coming through the clouds, riding sunny melodic breezes. SLOWDIVE and THE CURE are still good references for this music, but they are toolimited to describe the unique sound of TREMBLING BLUE STARS, a sound that\'sready to mingle melodic, sensitive pop with many electronic sounds, distortions, noises, static and even field recordings that envelope thesongs with a nostalgic halo. On one song, percussion is provided byfootsteps on dry branches and shingles, and on another song a recording of dawn on the Romney Marsh provides the backdrop. THE RAIN PARADE, MAZZY STAR and GALAXIE 500 come up here and there: on this album there\'s folk, andthere\'s electronica and 80\'s influences and avant country and, of course,there\'s the best pop music you can hear. There\'s no doubt you will fall inlove again with Bobby Wratten\'s music. They have hit the target again. "The last holy writer" is the proof that one of the most influential bands in indie-pop is at its most creative, daring and inspired, now more concentrated than ever in writing the most beautiful popsongs you\'ve heard for ages.

ER-1125 Single "Pío Pío"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

After the two first EP's, we can at least announce the release of the debut album by SINGLE. Fifteen songs of an unusual, mysterious beauty; fifteen different worlds, united by a common thread of creativity, modesty and decision. Wrapped in a beautiful art nouveau cover artwork (again, as usual, by Javier Aramburu), "Pío Pío" is a much varied album, which under the common umbrella of what we can call pop music hides such assorted styles as reggae, country, soul, easy listening, hip-hop, drum'n'bass or R&B. Teresa Iturrioz's capacity to create, with the help of her producer Ibon Errazkin (both ex LE MANS, one of the most important bands ever in Spanish pop), a sound of their own that is both original but popular and absolutely modern, is based in an exceptional flair to choose the best among the most diverse possibilities, following the path from (and going much further beyond than) where LE MANS had left it after their fabulous farewell trilogy. "Pío Pío" is a multi-coloured, multi-layered collage created by cutting and pasting all kinds of miniatures, blending impossible melodies and beats that sound all new. Classic-tinged songs are formed over broken rhythms, song patterns are deconstructed and reconstructed from the roof. This is modern, intelligent pop music. Classic pop turned upside-down. Four of the songs on the album had already appeared on the EP's (only the cover versions have been left out); but from these four, the new version of "Honey" puts the accent on the reggae lovers rock production, with a vocal cameo by Japanese DJ/toaster Rootseeker. And talking about covers, there is one: "Recuerdo escolar", by flamenco-prog stars Lole y Manuel. Fans of LE MANS will be glad to discover again the voice of Jone Gabarain, and there's also vocal contributions by Spanish pop artist ANTI. Pianos and keyboards have been played by Antonio Galvañ (PARADE) and Rafael Guillermo (POP TOPS), and there's other collaborations by Eduard Alarcón (ASTRUD, VANGUARD), and Enrique Godino and Rodrigo Cortillas (both from COHETE). For all vinyl lovers we are releasing a deluxe limited edition.

ER-1124 My Little Airport "Zoo is sad, people are cruel"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

MY LITTLE AIRPORT is an indie-pop/electro-noise-pop band from Hong Kong (the second Hong Kong artist in the Elefant Records story, right after THE PANCAKES), formed by P and Nicole, college classmates since 2001, and well known in the Hong Kong area thanks to the big success they had with their debut album. "Zoo is sad, people are cruel", is a fourteen-song album compiling the best moments off their two albums. A sweetest selection that will make you laugh and it will make you sigh, and above all it will fill you with joy. Their lyrics are about relationships and stories between P and his friends and acquaintances. Really, the lyrics are about this. Just check out song titles like "Victor, fly me to Stafford", "You don't wanna be my girlfriend, Phoebe" or "Leo, are you still jumping out of windows in expensive clothes?". Their twee-pop sound shares the naïveté of the Sarah Records bands, the simple chrams of CONFETTI and THE SOFTIES and the unaffected intonations of HEAVENLY's Amelia Fletcher. Sometimes, their sound tends more towards punk-pop à la HELEN LOVE (as in the short pill that is "Gigi Leung is dead"), and they also openly acknowledge their fondness for SLOWDIVE y MOJAVE 3, who might be a big influence on the final track, "Dee, it may all end up tomorrow". But, with a song titled "When I listen to The Field Mice", what else could they be but an indie band?

ER-1123 Camera Obscura "Let's Get Out Of This Country"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

CAMERA OBSCURA have grown to become an important name in the international pop scene. More than 50.000 copies sold to this moment are good prove of their ascending career, with the highlight of recent sold-out shows in New York and SXSW, witnessed by high profile fans Mike Myers and Conor Oberst (BRIGHT EYES). The eyes of the international pop scene are set on "Let's get out of this country": a collection of ten perfect pop songs, absolutely no filler, where the band from Glasgow looks at classic pop through country and soul tinted lenses, influenced by a wide variety of heroes - from Jimmy Webb to Lloyd Cole, from Connie Francis to Skeeter Davis, from the SUPREMES to David Lynch. In Autumn 2005, Camera Obscura travelled from Glasgow to Stockholm to begin work on their third album with acclaimed producer Jari Haapalainen (Ed Harcourt, THE CONCRETES, INTERNATIONAL (NOISE) CONSPIRACY), and some of the string musicians they used have recently toured with Brian Wilson or Arthur Lee & LOVE; the album was recorded in the same studios where Neneh Cherry or Robyn have previously recorded, and it was mixed at the same place used by THE MAGIC NUMBERS or Per Gessle from ROXETTE fame. Among the contributors to this album we find Victoria Bergsman from THE CONCRETES, singer-songwriter Brita Persson or members of Swedish pop bands such as THE TOURETTES, LAAKSO or SPEEDMARKET AVENUE. A timeless album, delicately orchestrated, with which we're sure CAMERA OBSCURA will confirm the importance of their song legacy. These are songs that last forever, that will go with you forever. For all vinyl lovers we are releasing a deluxe limited edition (cover and inlet in glossy hard paper and 180 gr. vinyl).

ER-1122 Entre Ríos "Onda"

  5€  [CD Digipak]

New record by this Argentinian trio who deliver dreamy electronic pop gems with which they are conquering the hearts of modern pop lovers all over the world. A record that’s based in synthesizers, in real time sound modulations (hence the album’s title, “Wave”), recorded between January and March 2005: a Southern hemisphere summer record. In “Onda” ENTRE RÍOS give a perfect shape to their personal, fascinating mix of pop and electronics (as if FAMILY had known Morr Music’s repertoire, as they were once defined), and the sound of the synthesizers prevails along the album. There some keyboard sounds that come directly from the 80’s, but always in the context of electronic manipulation and emotional songwriting that is characteristic to the band, often compared to a more melodic LALI PUNA or a more experimental SAINT ETIENNE. As with these bands, ENTRE RÍOS is a band that works in the present day, playing pop music that sounds new and fresh, as all pop music should always sound.

ER-1121 Jupiter Apple "Uma tarde na fruteira"

  6€  [CD]

"Uma tarde na fruteira" is the fourth album by JUPITER APPLE, a Brazilian filmmaker, multi-instrumentalist and composer. A complete revision of the history of the best Brazilian music (not only soundwise, the desing is a tribute to the covers of exquisite Brazilian label Elenco) that takes us back, with its surrealistic, colourful imagery, to the most creative, explosive, exciting period in Brazilian music, the one going from the 50's to the 70's, the evolution that takes us from bossanova to MPB through Tropicalism. In his songs we find the same scents, the same colours and the same nostalgic yet optimistic exuberance that soaked the beloved recordings by OS MUTANTES, OS BRAÇOES, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Tom Zé, Gal Costa... There's soft pop songs that remind you of the early Roberto Carlos, intimate bossanova à la Luiz Bonfa or Baden Powell, hedonistic easy listening to be filed with Sergio Mendes or Walter Wanderley, psychedelic pop and expanding symphonies that make you think of the best tropicalism or THE BEACH BOYS' "Pet sounds" and "Smiley smile". This is an album that could have been released in 1968, or in 1972. In 2007 it sounds as a delicious anacronism that, thanks to a special vision of a sound that was futuristic and original in its heyday, still sounds absolutely modern and different to anything else.

ER-1120 Nosoträsh "Cierra la puerta al salir"

  6€  [CD Digipak]

Where "Popemas" managed to move everyone by paying a well deserved tribute to the mother figure, "Cierra la puerta al salir", fourth album by the all-girl band from Gijon, is a proud statement, dedicated this time to all those who have new plans on sight. They don't have the enemy at home anymore (as on their song “El enemigo en casa"), they have invited him to go away for good, closing the door behind him, as they sing in "Luciérnaga": "the heat will melt my memory and I will write my story again, I'll take you out of the script". "Dicen", another track on this fantastic album, ends with a chorus which could have been an alternative title for it: "te sienta fatal tanto suspirar" ("you look awful when you sigh"). After having worked with Ibon Errazkin (LE MANS) on their previous album, this time the production duties have been taken by fellow Gijoners Xel Pereda and Pedro Vigil (ex member of Spanish noise pop band PENELOPE TRIP and current leader of EDWIN MOSES and VIGIL). The album, recorded pacefully during weekend breaks in Gijon, is a combination of the atmospheres from the two previous records, "Popemas" and "Mi vida en un fin de semana". The lyrical excellence of "Popemas" is here enhanced with luxuriant arrangements and even a surprising yet brilliant collaboration with Basque singer songwriter Jabier Muguruza on the intimate "Funambulista.

ER-1119 La Casa Azul "El sonido efervescente de la casa azul"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

The debut album by LA CASA AZUL with a lot of extra tracks. We mean a lot, really: the original album featured eight songs, and the featured tracks on this reissue will rise to twenty-one! Besides the eight original songs, this new reissue includes the band’s first three demos: the first one, “Te invito a mi fiesta” (recorded between 1998 and 1999), which features the first version of their classic tune “Cerca de Shibuya” and several previously unreleased songs; the second one, “Canciones ligeras” (1999), which features Jeanette’s version “Si no voy a esperar” among others; and the third one, “Galletas” (1999). Besides of this, the album features three bonus tracks: the cover version of the 80’s hit by MECANO “Quiero vivir en la ciudad”; the revised version of their classic song “Chicle Cosmos” (revised in 2005 to be used in the soundtrack of the movie “Borjamari y Pocholo”); and the song “Tantas cosas que arreglar” (initially released in our compilation “Momentos perdidos”). For the new cover we have used the beautiful illustrations drawn by Duprez, who has perfectly captured the unique mood and universe of the band, and their philosophy of eternal fun and happy pop scapism. To make it short, this is a deluxe reissue which will be a great news for all the recent fans of LA CASA AZUL, who until now had to do with cold and soulless CD-R’s. Very soon it will be available in the best shops.

ER-1118 Corazón "Melodrama"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

CORAZÓN is Carlos (vocals) and Nando (vocals, guitar and electronic beats), a romantic pop couple that, before they even had a record out, had already a ton of faithful fans. After the fuss caused by their arrival into the Spanish independent scene, at least we can introduce you to "Melodrama", the debut album by CORAZÓN, which shows a surprisingly mature sound for such young artists, and plenty references which make you think of an immaculate good taste: VAINICA DOBLE, SOLERA or José y Manuel, if we talk about Spanish music; Françoise Hardy, LADY AND BIRD, KINGS OF CONVENIENCE, Simon & Garfunkel or Nilsson, on the international side. Eleven songs that have been eagerly waited for by many of us, among which we find their early hits in the Spanish indie scene as their hymn “No quiero cambiar”. Recorded in Valencia with top producer Dani Cardona, the album shows the support and help of many of the best Spanish pop acts, such as SERPENTINA, PARADE, LA CASA AZUL, LOS MAGNETICOS, Sir Edward, etc... The first seconds of the album start with the sound of a transistor radio looking for a station; of course, it stops when it finds "Radio Corazón (102.5 FM)". By the time the moog solo arrives, you are aware that the record has started with its first wonderful tune. How we wish many other radio stations elsewhere had this wonderful taste!

ER-1117 Les Très Bien Ensemble "Doux-amer"

  6€  [CD Digipak]

Debut album by LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE, a francophile, francophone, Barcelona-based band who make good taste and elegance taken from their French pop models a reason for their existence. They share their passion for the elegance and seduction of the best French pop, from Michel Polnareff to Katerine, and of course of the unbeatable Serge Gainsbourg and his cast of fragile and/or perverse female partenaires (France Gall, Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot). As if she were one of the muses idolized by her hero Serge Gainsbourg, Suzette knows how to sing and perform sounding sexy, or childish, or both things at the same time. The album's sound is obviously rooted in the 60's classic recordings, with exuberant orchestral arrangements which seem as if they had been commissioned to a soundtrack arranger from those golden years. In fact, on the recording they have used analogic material, valve equipment and a lot of pacience in order to recreate this classic sound and transport it forward to our time, bearing a new contemporariness.

Besides, this album (which will also be released on a vinyl limited edition, only 600 copies in white vinyl and a luxuriant jacket) includes the video clips of the songs "747", "Cerca del sol" and "Cierra los ojos", as well as pictures and information about the band.

On the fifth album of TBS, Bobby Wratten´s songs share the spirit of 70s songwriters such as JACKSON BROWNE (particularly on his most intimate and disheartening albums), or NICK DRAKE´s romanticism, along with a present day focus that adds synth-pop elements and a great deal of synth sounds (intelligently mixed with acoustic arrangements as in "If I handle you with care"), or melodic walls of sound as in "Moonlight on snow". On the production desk they are again assisted by Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE´s engineer and contributor). There´s a limited edition of this album in double 10", for vinyl lovers.

ER-1113 Le Mans "Le Mans"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

Digipak reissue, including booklet featuring the lyrics and remastered sound, of the debut album by LE MANS, originally released on Elefant Records in 1994. The first steps by LE MANS are based in unexpected influences for a Spanish band in those years (MARINE GIRLS, FELT and Cherry Red bands, Motown soul) creating a sound that would be set as a reference for a whole generation of Spanish pop bands to come behind them. Songs so simple that nowadays, when listening to them, one must wonder how come nobody had found such an effective formula before. But truth is that, in 1994, songs like “Astronautas” or “Jersey inglés” weren’t very usual in the Spanish pop scene. The album is opened by the danceable charms and the tribute to Sly Stone of “Un rayo de sol”. It is followed by more relaxed, 100% LE MANS songs such as “Jersey inglés” (with a guitar lick taken from ORANGE JUICE), “Juan” or “Al bulevar”. Another remarkable moment is “H.E.L.L.O”, which is enhanced by some shy electronic beats and the vocal collaboration of Borja from San Sebastian friends LA BUENA VIDA.

ER-1112 Le Mans "Entresemana"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

Third delivery in a series that started backwards: if last year we reissued “Aquí vivía yo” and “Saudade”, fourth and third album by LE MANS respectively, we go on with the countdown now with the re-release of the brief and magical “Entresemana”. In this case the digipak reissue, including booklet with lyrics and remastered sound, is even more appreciated, since the original released was in a slim cardboard envelope that didn’t make justice to the beauty it contained. “Entresemana” is the confirmation of all the promises that arose after listening to the debut album by LE MANS, only going much further than before: eight gorgeous songs combining JULIE LONDON’s vocal jazz with winks and tributes to Spanish cult folk duo VAINICA DOBLE (especially on the lyrics to “Perezosa y tonta”), in a moment when nobody in Spain dared acknowledging their love for this lovely folk-rock outfit... and above all, a songwriting talent and personality that can’t be equalled. A brief but simply perfect album, ahead of its time, that makes your mind dizzy with its beauty and its honesty. In the ever ascending path that followed the career of LE MANS, This second record surpasses the high levels of minimalist beauty they got with their first work. They let violin and string arrangements in their songs to increase the most lyrical side of their feelings. More than playing, it sounds as if they were caressing their instruments. A record, “Entresemana”, that you can fall for without embarrassment.

ER-1111 Le Mans "Saudade"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

LE MANS’ third album digipack reissue, re-mastered by Xavier Alarcón (VANGUARD), along with an adapted cover by Javier Aramburu and a booklet with the lyrics. This is the album that confirmed LE MANS as great song-makers. "Saudade" is a Portuguese term meaning something like "sad longing" : it is pleasant and reassuring to see how LE MANS had enough perspective to define their music in such a clear and concise and, at the same moment, original way; in fact, "Saudade" is an album to be listened to calmly, carefully, and many times, in order to capture the essence of its serene beauty. The songs are all about eternal subjects as coolness, nostalgia and disillusionment; like gray and fall postcards, as the magnificent covers that wraps it. Orchestration is austere, bare, stressing Jone´s warm and touching voice and Ibon´s guitar arpeggios, paying homage once again to the great Nick Drake.

ER-1109 Family "Un soplo en el corazón [Tenth anniversary special edition]"

  12€  [CD Digipak]

FAMILY is a legendary name in the Spanish music scene of all time. And they reached this cult status with only an album, a perfect record from its start until its last second, that they filled with such influences as the guitar playing of Johnny Marr (THE SMITHS), the melodic basslines of Peter Hook (NEW ORDER), the synthetic elegance of PET SHOP BOYS, the unique style of Spanish pop star Carlos Berlanga (and his admired Antonio Carlos Jobim). A true masterpiece which didn’t need big promotion campaigns: as a matter of fact, FAMILY didn’t give almost any interviews, got any pictures taken or played live onstage. In 2003 their only album, “Un soplo en el corazón” (a tribute to the film by Louis Malle) was reissued to coincide with its tenth anniversary. For this event Javier Aramburu himself (who in the meantime had become one of the best Spanish designers) adapted the original cover artwork to the new digipak format, so this masterwork is now presented as it deserves.

ER-1106 Trembling Blue Stars "A certain evening light"

  6€  [CD Digipak]

This is a superb sound document: a collection of songs that so far had only been included in the singles this British band had released throughout all its career. 17 songs rescued from limited edition singles or versions different to the album ones. 'A certain evening light' is a new miracle of delicate, subtle pop; songs always pervaded with the sweet melancholy Bob endows each of his creations: transparent guitars, arrangements full of good taste, Bob's serene and moving vocals, supported by the ethereal sweetness of Beth and Anne Mari's female backing vocals. Production tasks, as usual in TREMBLING BLUE STARS, are carried out by Ian Catt, who has usually worked with ST ETIENNE and some Elefant artists such as NOSOTRÄSH, CARLOS BERLANGA and NIZA. There's a hidden track not included in the credits: 'Christmas & Train-Trips & Things', which originally appeared in a Christmas sampler given as a freebie at a Shinkansen night. Elefant's edition is a special edition in digipak.

CAMERA OBSCURA's songs make the audience surrender to their charms with each listen: this is a new example of classic pop with that 'something special' so difficult to define: maybe because of Tracyanne's vocals? or the wide assortment of always exquisite influences, ranging from 50's girl bands to 60's soft pop or country pop? or maybe the transparent production of Geoff Allan, who has worked with MOGWAI, TEENAGE FANCLUB, THE DELGADOS, ARAB STRAP, BELLE AND SEBASTIAN? or maybe it's that songs like 'Teenager' are simply perfect? CAMERA OBSCURA know how to reach people's hearts with sweet melodies wisely dressed with delicate arrangements and bittersweet lyrics. A wonderful sample of mellowness, wisedom and worked-up pop jewelry.
