ER-374 Cooper "Lemon Pop"

  4€  [CD-Single Digipak]

Over a year has passed since COOPER has released anything and the last single, “Guardame un Secreto” dazzled fans and press to such an extent that it turned out to be the group’s most successful single to date. Throughout the first week on sale, it went directly to number 2 on the singles charts in Spain and maintained its status for more than twenty consecutive weeks. In Alex’s own words, “Lemon pop is a sincere tribute to the [Lemon Pop] Festival in Murcia, as well as the other festivals which have helped us along the way, including FIB, Contempopranea, etc…besides, lemon pop is also a perfect bittersweet mix, like our songs: upbeat and swift melodies which at times, hide the sad and introspective words. ‘Bittersweet’ is the key word, I believe.” This single is one and only. COOPER is living it up right now, with more encouragement as the days go by and with four songs that demonstrate their four poles of pop, the four poles of COOPER. “El Círculo Polar” starts it off with 100% COOPER flavour, the classic sound of the band, as in “Vertigo” and “Cierra los Ojos,” but it is surprisingly a cover of MYRACLE BRAH. A perfect adaptation of “Getting Over Delusion” which COOPER has made their very own and one which Andy Bopp is absolutely delighted with. “En el Sofa” is beautiful, a song about perfect love, peaceful, gentle, with delicious words about the beloved. With “Ruido,” the crazy guitar comes in with the accelerated powerpop, the rebellious young, shedding off many songs from LOS FLECHAZOS and which culminated in “Rabia”, the first cousin and predecessor to “Ruido.” “Ola de calor” is an atypical song of COOPER, different but catchy, and the first time you hear the track, it converts into an immediate favourite: pop, colourful and psychedelic, fun, fresh and catchy. As if these incredible four songs and the delicious cover were not enough, we wanted to give a special gift to all COOPER fans and that is why we decided to include a fifth track. This track is composed of over an hour of cover songs played live at the infamous COOPER concert in Madrid on January 18, 2008. A full hour with COOPER live performing their favourite songs from various groups, decades and styles.  From GIGOLO AUNTS to BUZZCOCKS, going on to BADFINGER, THE MUFFS, THE HOLLIES, NACHA POP and THE FOUNDATIONS and last, but not least,  LOS FLECHAZOS.

ER-370 Helen Love "It's my club"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

Many months have passed ever since HELEN LOVE was signed onto Elefant Records and put out their first single on our label and the endless waiting for the arrival of new songs has been far too long for the group’s fans. We have anxiously awaited for this moment and are finally able to announce the release of the new single, a splendid and explosive appetizer of the imminent brand-new album, “It’s My Club and I will Play what I want to, “ the fifth album of their musical journey, which will be out at the beginning of 2008. Is there any better way to start out the new year? “It’s My Club” (the new single and the tune which will open their full-length) is an absolute hit and a declaration of principles which perfectly define the spirit of HELEN LOVE; Bubblegum-indie-punk-rock-disco fast and catchy; a boundless night dancing under the stars until sunrise in a dreamy club with amazing dance floors, gigantic video screens (with the RAMONES live in 1976, of course), laser rays, strobe lights, multicolour light shows and the best pick of music, courtesy of our hostess Helen, just to enjoy the magnetism to the fullest on a great summer night in a special Club. Two exclusive songs are also included on this special limited edition single; “Boots On” with a tribute of the classic late 70s song “Video Killed the Radio Star” by THE BUGGLES and “Jennifer Hanley” a rock star which every adolescent kid on the planet dreams of. In short, three excellent songs of pure punk-pop which demonstrate the exclusive and singular universe of HELEN LOVE, an authentic pop feast, a colourful world of eternal youth.

ER-369 Trembling Blue Stars "Exploring the shadows"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

After the release of "The last holy writer" (the sixth album by TREMBLING BLUE STARS), the stand alone "Exploring the shadows" EP features, as always, many previously unreleased tracks. On its CD format you will find four exclusive songs that were recorded as part of the album sessions, and were treated with as much care and given as much time. The lead song, the sunny and melodic "Beautiful blank", is sung by Beth Arzy. In the form of an infectious, radio-friendly guitar pop song, it tells of an Edie Sedgwick-esque character and is titled after a phrase in Andy Warhol's book "From A To B". Bobby takes the lead vocal on another upbeat guitar pop track, "As easy as being alone", which goes back to the more melancholic and dreamy indie-pop style we have learnt to love from him. The CD-EP is complete with the introspection meets experimentation of "Outside looking elsewhere", and the more experimental pastures of "And then silence", with its gloomy atmosphere and reverberated vocals. This last song ends up so abruptly ("and then silence") that you can't help but press 'play' and start again. And then again, and again. You're under the spell of the best pop music.

ER-368 Camera Obscura "Tears for affairs"

"Tears for affairs" is the fourth song taken as a single from the highly praised third album by CAMERA OBSCURA. Along with the title track, the CD-single format includes one new, previously unreleased track: "The last song", as well as a brand new video of “Lloyd, I´m ready to be heartbroken”, directed by Victoria Bergsman (THE CONCRETES, TAKEN BY TREES) and filmed by Blair Young, the man behind most of the band’s videos; the clip features artwork by François Marry, French designer and musician living in England.

ER-367 Cooper "Guárdame un secreto"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

We can find some on this new EP that adds up to COOPER's already brilliant list of small format records. Four songs that follow up from the previous one from the very cover, with Catherine Deneuve starring again, and introducing the band's new drummer, Nacho García (WINNERYS). "Canción de viernes" opens the EP with the classic COOPER sound, self-referencing their own repertoire as in songs like "Vértigo" or "Nudo en la garganta" (in fact the repetition of words from these songs is absolutely conscious). "Mi diario" is about emotional instability -a secret to keep, hidden from the rest-, in a power pop style. "Steph" is a precious song, poetic and very moving, with a different sound to the band's previous efforts: as if SHAZAM would play a BEATLES song with Evan Dando. If anything. The last song (the last one?), "Flea market", is a comeback to Alex's anglophile roots, a danceable instrumental number lead by Carlo Coupé's marvelous organ. With this guest musician COOPER travel to places where they could meet THE SMALL FACES, JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET or, of course, Alex's previous band LOS FLECHAZOS.

ER-366 Camera Obscura "If looks could kill"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

"If looks could kill" is the third song taken as a single from the highly praised third album by CAMERA OBSCURA, an album composed of melodic pop jewels from the first to the very last song. Along with the title track, destined to be danced to death in the best pop music clubs due to its unstoppable Motown beat and the Phil Spector-esque sound, the CD-Single format includes two new, previously unreleased tracks: "Hands up baby" (a duet written and sung by Kenny McKeeve with Tracyanne Campbell's vocal counterpoint, recorded during the same Swedish sessions as the album, which shows the couple as a Scottish version of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra on a cloudy day) and the very recent song called "Alaska", a new track that was recorded on the last weekend of October by Paul Savage (THE DELGADOS) at Glasgow's Chem 19 studios (where Vashti Bunyan, TRASH CAN SINATRAS, Scout Niblett or TEENAGE FANCLUB have recorded, among others).

ER-364 Camera Obscura "Let's get out of this country"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

Second single taken from "Let's get out of this country", the record that confirms CAMERA OBSCURA as one of the most important bands of the moment. The sweetness in Tracyanne Campbell appeals to all kinds of crowds, and the Glasgow band have achieved on this third album a timeless sound of their own, which sounds classic and makes you dream with moments you haven't lived. What else can you ask from a good pop song? "Let's get out of this country" is the title track on the third album, and is also the main song on this single. A sunny, classic pop song which, as the rest of the album, was recorded in Sweden under the production of Jari Haapalainen (producer of such gems as THE CONCRETES or Ed Harcourt). Along with this song, the CD-single features two new tracks: "Lemon juice and paper cuts", evocative mid-tempo, lead by piano and organ, and "Return to send her", with a country-style guitar that is the perfect counterpoint to Tracyanne's vocal melody.

ER-363 Helen Love "Junk shop discotheque"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

At least we can see fulfilled one of our dreams: releasing an exclusive HELEN LOVE single on Elefant Records. They are one of the bands who have better used the pop aesthetics and the fascination we all have for the colourful icons in pop culture, and we love them for that. We are also going to seal this relationship with a single in two formats: CD-single and 7" vinyl (pop music's own format), both in limited editions and luxury packagings (CD on digipack and pink coloured vinyl). HELEN LOVE have come up with three wonderful songs for this single: infectious bubblegum-pop for fun and all-night dancing. "Junk shop discotheque" is a glam-rock, punk-pop bomb with a disco flavour and vocoder vocals (with echoes of Suzi Quatro, DENIM and LA CASA AZUL), which will fill up dancefloors all over the globe. Even more frantic dancing is found on the remix of "Debbie loves Joey" (a love story between Debbie Harry and Joey Ramone, the original version of which appeared on the "The bubblegumkillers" EP, which was released on American label Sympathy For The Record Industry), whilst "Shut your mouth", the third song that completes this fantastic single, is a powerful melodic, guitar-pop pill. The cover on the single is by Punk Boy Jamie (who is usually behind the band's characteristic artwork and their website, too), and the three songs have been mastered by Xavier Alarcón to guarantee you the best possible sound.

ER-362 Camera Obscura "Lloyd, I´m ready to be heartbroken"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

More than 50.000 copies sold to this moment are good prove of CAMERA OBSCURA's ascending career. The first single out from the new album, "Lloyd, I'm ready to be heartbroken", is a country soul track with a fantastic ending part where Tracyanne manages to sing up to six choruses! As for the exclusive B-sides, "Phil and Don" (a tribute to the EVERLY BROTHERS?) is a country duet with great guitar work and some harmonica thrown in for good luck. And "Roman holiday" has a bossanova beat and a vibraphone arrangement that give it the perfect stylish touch for a song too good to be just a B-side. If these are their B-sides, imagine how good is the album! The band recorded the album track in Sweden with the help of producer Jari Haapalainen (Ed Harcourt, THE CONCRETES) and a great team of people with whom they've worked in the country's best studios: some of the string musicians have recently toured with Brian Wilson or Arthur Lee & LOVE; the song was recorded in the same studios where Neneh Cherry or Robyn have previously recorded, and it was mixed at the same place used by THE MAGIC NUMBERS or Per Gessle from ROXETTE fame. Among the contributors to these songs we find Victoria Bergsman from THE CONCRETES, singer-songwriter Brita Persson or members of Swedish pop bands such as THE TOURETTES, LAAKSO or SPEEDMARKET AVENUE.

ER-361 Single "Su recuerdo"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

After that wonderful surprise that was "Honey", her debut, SINGLE is back with three new songs featuring intelligent lyrics and a leftfield production, full of imagination, in a pop context. In our opinion, the top of the pop lists everywhere should be full with songs like "El amor en fuga", an inspired combination of electronic and acoustic pieces that wrap the most elegant melody we have heard this year. The songs is a cover version of the original theme written by Alain Souchon and Laurent Voulzy for the movie by François Truffaut (“L’amour en fuite" (Love on the run), 1979), but SINGLE has made it her own with an approach that seems unthinkable in other pop crooners that don't have her taste and her lack of prejudices. Noone would say this is a sound collage, though, because it is much more than that: it's modern pop music. The two fantastic songs that follow on this single ("Llévame a dormir" and "Su recuerdo") are halfway between country and pop, always with SINGLE's personal seal. "Llévame a dormir" reminds of Phil Ochs' recordings on the A&M label and, in "Su recuerdo" (the song that closes the record, besides giving it its title), the piano played by Antonio Galvañ from Spanish band PARADE is specially outstanding, along with the country pop melody in the best Bobbie Gentry style. Ibon Errazkin is still supervising all from the back, as a musician, producer and composer, and the precious artwork is once more conceived by Spanish cult designer Javier Aramburu, who has collaborated with Teresa and Ibon in all their projects since LE MANS.

ER-359 Trembling Blue Stars "Bathed in blue extended play"

  3€  [CD-Single]

"Bathed in blue" is the second single taken from the TREMBLING BLUE STARS's fifth long player, "The seven autumn flowers", although after checking the amount of new material they have added we must better talk about a new EP that goes perfectly along with the main album's sweetness and dreamy soundscapes. "Bathed in blue" is not your average single taken from an album, it's much more than that. The song they took from the album has been remixed, improved and even extended, and along with these two versions of the main track we find four totally new, previously unreleased songs, which make us hold our breath whilst mentioning BIRDIE, SLOWDIVE and THE CURE. With such references and this length, it is clear that we're talking about something bigger than just a single. We're talking about a record with a personality of its own. Bobby Wratten is feeling inspired, let's enjoy it.

ER-357 Single "Honey"

  3€  [CD-Single Digipak]

SINGLE is the name of the new solo project by Teresa Iturrioz, a new musical adventure directed by once bassist and lyricist with legendary international pop acts LE MANS and AVENTURAS DE KIRLIAN. On this new project she´s helped by former bandmate Ibon Errazkin, on songwriting and production duties, featuring as well as a musician (and also providing some of the musicians who play on Ibon´s own solo efforts, such as Antonio from PARADE or Murky from PATRULLERO MANCUSO). There´s three new tracks on SINGLE´s debut EP, wrapped in a beautiful artwork by Spanish top designer Javier Aramburu: "Honey" takes us back to the atmosphere of LE MANS‚ classic song "Zerbina"; "Ven, ven, ven" feels like a tribute to Joe Meek´s space age productions; and "Cabeza Cuadrada", finally, is a cover version of the original song by Spanish cult band TERRY IV, now arranged in a broken reggae stylee. A great comeback.

For just a bit less than two years, TENDER TRAP has been Amelia Fletcher, Rob Pursey y Dj Downfall's new musical project. Amelia and Rob have been playing a leading role in the most precious and delicate faction of the British underground pop since halfway through eighties. Names such as TALULAH GOSH, HEAVENLY o MARINE RESEARCH have deeply touched thousands of the fans of the all-time best indiepop. '¿Cómo te llamas?', which has been already premiered live in our country, has became an immediate success even before being published. The song has a delicious vocal duo in which Lupe (from PIPAS) shares with Amelia the main vocal role. The surprise is this is the first bilingual song of the band (English-Spanish); a gift for their Spanish fans. This CD-Single rounds up with two more brand new songs ('Friendster' y 'Be my boyfriend') and two remixes of 'Face of 73' (one of them by Juan from LA MONJA ENANA). ER-246 Camera Obscura "I love my Jean"

  3€  [Single 7"]

Three new, excellent songs by the Glaswegians, honouring this time the work of poet Robert Burns (1759-1796), considered to be Scotland´s national poet. Tracyanne Campbell has put to music with her musical flair two of Burns‚ poems ("I love my Jean" and "A red, red rose"), and has completed the tracklist with a jangly, country-ish, melancholy-tinged song of her own, "Marathon not a sprint". The three songs share though the quintessential CAMERA OBSCURA sound, with Tracyanne´s beautiful voice unveiling the melodies over a background formed by pianos and acoustic guitars, an example of timeless, classic beauty. The single is also a posthumous tribute to BBC DJ John Peel, who helped and befriended the band since their first single.

ER-1135 La Monja Enana "Humo y Espejos"

  6€  [CD Digipak]

LA MONJA ENANA is not your typical group with a defined path. Throughout their long, and at times, slower than usual career, they have played in Sweden, Russia, Paris and they put out a compilation in France and Mexico. The band has also been Single of the Week in Melody Maker. All of this happened without much effort from the group. LA MONJA ENANA is relaxed because they know that every once in awhile, without having to move a finger, something un-heard of happens and changes their career. Perhaps its largely due to their scientific-literary-paranormal theme in their music or it could simply be that when you listen to their music without preconceived notions, you appreciate all of the wonderful tunes with a catchy melody, a crystal and natural voice, together with surprising sounds. The fact is, LA MONJA ENANA has numerous fans in Spain anxiously awaiting for the release of their album, “Humo y Espejo.” We are folks who sell out their concerts, sing along to their songs and know the perfect gestures which go along with each line.  We understand the references of Philip K. Dick and Jack Clayton in their older songs and with their brand new songs, we’ll catch on to the references of Lemony Snicket in “Café Kafka” and of Jorgen Leth in “Humano Perfecto.” We are people who admire how all of this may convert into a song and sound so great, catchy and melancholic at the same time. We are people who are elated that a group like LA MONJA ENANA exists, because, someone finally has written a song like “Heróes del Pasado” about the glorious oldies and because they dare with one of the most unusual songs by Jonathan Richman, “I’m a Little Dinosaur,” offered as a bonus track on the album. ER-1133 Les Très Bien Ensemble "Rougeole"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

Many of us were left mesmerized by the precious melodies and the elegant pop which "Doux-amer" had, LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE’s debut album from three years ago. After an intense period and recent change in lineup with the incorporation of Charles Gasqué, the second awaited album of the Catalonian band, "Rougeole", has arrived. "The title, "Rougeole" (“measles” in French) makes reference to something that only time can heal. Time means life and death all at once, something out of human control which inexplicably advances to a particular destiny. "Rougeole" talks about the end of a vital stage, from disappointments to obsessions and desires, from hope to desperation, from excitement to anguish, reliance, nostalgia and indifference.” There is no better way to describe an album which finely depicts the most human and exciting details to talk about the contradiction of existing, always with an upbeat tone and vital hope, characteristics which describe each one of the songs of "Rougeole". An album that Françoise Hardy would adore and Jacques Brel would save a special place on his CD rack for and Serge Gainsbourg would give to Jane Birkin, and THE BYRDS would pack this album to help pass the time in the tour van. The best part is that all of these influences, all classical, sober and inspired, LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE formed their own plan, within the same distance from the past as the present, but above all, full of personality. There is a reason that time is the protagonist of this fantastic second album, "Rougeole".

ER-1132 Speedmarket Avenue "Way better now"

  9€  [CD Digipak]     9€  [LP]

It’s hard to imagine a better declaration of principles than the first phrase that you read on the website of the Swedes SPEEDMARKET AVENUE; it’s a self-definition which goes as follows “a pop music collective led by a little guy who looks like a cross between Charles Manson and Marc Bolan.” The fact of the matter is that this Swedish band is going to be, without a doubt, one of the musical references of 2008 for all POP lovers in capital letters, with a perfect concept of melody, putting them in the same ballpark as THE AISLERS SET and THE FAIRWAYS; jangle-pop with precious wind arrangements, played with freshness and emotion. Their second album, “Way Better Now,” produced by Jari Haapalainen (member of HEIKKI and THE BEAR QUARTET, but also producer of ED HARCOURT, INTERNATIONAL NOISE CONSPIRACY, THE CONCRETES and CAMERA OBSCURA, with whom these Swedes collaborated on their last album, “Let’s Get Out of This Country” ) is a demonstration of inspiration of a band able to aim in the same way the girl-groups of the 50’s did (THE RONETTES in “The State of Harmony”) and the shoegazers (“Sirens” evokes memories of SLOWDIVE), managing immediately with intelligent melodies, intensity and textures ("Way better now," "Accident" and "Don’t fall in love" are inevitable singles). In conclusion, similar as to how one can read a book over and over again in different ways, the new CD allows the listener to apply his or her own form of listening to the album: the patient way, the urgent, immediate, energetic or melancholic way...This richness is what makes the second album of SPEEDMARKET AVENUE so grand. There´s a limited edition of this album for vinyl lovers.

ER-1130 Serpentina "Planeando en tu azotea"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

"Planeando en tu Azotea" is a cd, musically speaking, more luminous, direct and immediate, perhaps less Baroque than their last album, with the majority of songs hardly going over two minutes of duration, following the norms of classical pop. As always, in the proposal of the Tamarit siblings, we find references to popular music across the decades, from easy listening (Ennio Morricone, Henry Mancini, Antón García Abril, Esquivel, Augusto Algueró), soft pop (Margo Guryan, LOVE GENERATION, OCTOBER COUNTRY, CHAD AND JEREMY, HARPERS BIZARRE), folk pop (THE GENTLE SOUL, PETER PAUL AND MARY, THE SEEKERS), bossanova pop (Claudine Longet, Chris Montez), psychedelic pop (THE BEATLES, Syd Barret, SAGITTARIUS) even French pop (Coralie Clément, Françoise Hardy, Marie Laforêt), melodic Italian pop (Pino Donaggio, Fabrizio De André) and above all, Spanish pop from the 60's and 70's (VAINICA DOBLE, SOLERA, JOSÉ Y MANUEL, NUEVOS HORIZONTES, Cecilia). Moreover, the new work catches glimpses of soundtracks by Danny Elfman and the music of Él Records (Louis Philippe), passing over North American bands from the 90's such as THE LEGENDARY JIM RUIZ GROUP and Scandinavian pop (early CARDIGANS, CLOUDBERRY JAM, SUPER). Therefore, in songs like “El Universo” or “Ven, Siéntate” we can delight in pop from the sixties, while in songs like “Yo que Hago Aquí” we taste the folkier aromas. “Tan Fácil” is delicious soft pop and “Dos o Tres Meses” and “Querido Miedo” are samples of the best Swedish pop. On the Baroque and cinematographic sides, we have “No Sé Por Qué” and “Mañana,” songs which introduce us to an ambitious group with a proposal completely original, one that distinguishes this band from the other musical artists of this country.

ER-1128 Ana D "Satélite 99 [Tenth anniversary special edition]"

  9€  [Double-CD Digipak]

In October it will be ten years since we released one of the most uniquerecords we know of. A kind of cosmic-melodic chanson that had never been done before and hasn't been done ever since. Ana D has become since then a legendary name, and we want to celebrate the tenth anniversary of her only official album as it deserves: with a full re-release that rises to its condition of lost classic album, joining an extra bonus album. Today, "Satélite 99" sounds as fascinatingly weird and beautiful as it didthen. On this album Ana D and her companions, producers and arrangers(Ibon Errazkin and Javier Corcobado) used vintage instruments and forgottenbeat boxes to create their own kind of "acoustic synth-pop", with referencesthat ranged from Kurt Weill and Serge Gainsbourg to Astrud Gilberto and SUICIDE. Since the very moment when it was released, the album received unanimous acclaim: Dean Wareham (GALAXIE 500, LUNA, Dean & Britta) chose the album among his favourites that year, and international film star Pedro Almodóvar chose a song by Ana D to be included in a personal compilation. The album was also released in Argentina and in the USA. On an American tour Ana and Ibon recorded a live session for renowned LA radio show "Morning Becomes Eclectic" (other artists recording sessions on those dates were THE FLAMING LIPS, Billy Bragg or THE BETA BAND). Those songs, naked skeletons that had the only accompaniment of Ibon's elegant, folkie guitar playing, are now available as the core of the extra record with which we enhance this very special re-release: apart from the five songs from that radio session, on this new candy for the fans we have featured the two songs recorded by Ana D for our Singles Club, and the three songs she recorded in 2003 with Sergio Fernández (Kamamuri). An already known track of her own ("Andrómeda") and two cover versions, one of fellow Elefant recording artists (and fellow one-album-wonders) FAMILY and a previously unreleased version of Brazilian singer Roberto Carlos. The perfect gift to go along with a record that after ten years keeps hypnotizing its listeners with its timeless magic. Don't be afraid of magic and dive deep in it, you won't regret it.

MY LITTLE AIRPORT is an indie-pop/electro-noise-pop band from Hong Kong (the second Hong Kong artist in the Elefant Records story, right after THE PANCAKES), formed by P and Nicole, college classmates since 2001, and well known in the Hong Kong area thanks to the big success they had with their debut album. "Zoo is sad, people are cruel", is a fourteen-song album compiling the best moments off their two albums. A sweetest selection that will make you laugh and it will make you sigh, and above all it will fill you with joy. Their lyrics are about relationships and stories between P and his friends and acquaintances. Really, the lyrics are about this. Just check out song titles like "Victor, fly me to Stafford", "You don't wanna be my girlfriend, Phoebe" or "Leo, are you still jumping out of windows in expensive clothes?". Their twee-pop sound shares the naïveté of the Sarah Records bands, the simple chrams of CONFETTI and THE SOFTIES and the unaffected intonations of HEAVENLY's Amelia Fletcher. Sometimes, their sound tends more towards punk-pop à la HELEN LOVE (as in the short pill that is "Gigi Leung is dead"), and they also openly acknowledge their fondness for SLOWDIVE y MOJAVE 3, who might be a big influence on the final track, "Dee, it may all end up tomorrow". But, with a song titled "When I listen to The Field Mice", what else could they be but an indie band?

ER-1122 Entre Ríos "Onda"

  5€  [CD Digipak]

New record by this Argentinian trio who deliver dreamy electronic pop gems with which they are conquering the hearts of modern pop lovers all over the world. A record that’s based in synthesizers, in real time sound modulations (hence the album’s title, “Wave”), recorded between January and March 2005: a Southern hemisphere summer record. In “Onda” ENTRE RÍOS give a perfect shape to their personal, fascinating mix of pop and electronics (as if FAMILY had known Morr Music’s repertoire, as they were once defined), and the sound of the synthesizers prevails along the album. There some keyboard sounds that come directly from the 80’s, but always in the context of electronic manipulation and emotional songwriting that is characteristic to the band, often compared to a more melodic LALI PUNA or a more experimental SAINT ETIENNE. As with these bands, ENTRE RÍOS is a band that works in the present day, playing pop music that sounds new and fresh, as all pop music should always sound.

ER-1121 Jupiter Apple "Uma tarde na fruteira"

  6€  [CD]

"Uma tarde na fruteira" is the fourth album by JUPITER APPLE, a Brazilian filmmaker, multi-instrumentalist and composer. A complete revision of the history of the best Brazilian music (not only soundwise, the desing is a tribute to the covers of exquisite Brazilian label Elenco) that takes us back, with its surrealistic, colourful imagery, to the most creative, explosive, exciting period in Brazilian music, the one going from the 50's to the 70's, the evolution that takes us from bossanova to MPB through Tropicalism. In his songs we find the same scents, the same colours and the same nostalgic yet optimistic exuberance that soaked the beloved recordings by OS MUTANTES, OS BRAÇOES, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Tom Zé, Gal Costa... There's soft pop songs that remind you of the early Roberto Carlos, intimate bossanova à la Luiz Bonfa or Baden Powell, hedonistic easy listening to be filed with Sergio Mendes or Walter Wanderley, psychedelic pop and expanding symphonies that make you think of the best tropicalism or THE BEACH BOYS' "Pet sounds" and "Smiley smile". This is an album that could have been released in 1968, or in 1972. In 2007 it sounds as a delicious anacronism that, thanks to a special vision of a sound that was futuristic and original in its heyday, still sounds absolutely modern and different to anything else.

ER-1120 Nosoträsh "Cierra la puerta al salir"

  6€  [CD Digipak]

Where "Popemas" managed to move everyone by paying a well deserved tribute to the mother figure, "Cierra la puerta al salir", fourth album by the all-girl band from Gijon, is a proud statement, dedicated this time to all those who have new plans on sight. They don't have the enemy at home anymore (as on their song “El enemigo en casa"), they have invited him to go away for good, closing the door behind him, as they sing in "Luciérnaga": "the heat will melt my memory and I will write my story again, I'll take you out of the script". "Dicen", another track on this fantastic album, ends with a chorus which could have been an alternative title for it: "te sienta fatal tanto suspirar" ("you look awful when you sigh"). After having worked with Ibon Errazkin (LE MANS) on their previous album, this time the production duties have been taken by fellow Gijoners Xel Pereda and Pedro Vigil (ex member of Spanish noise pop band PENELOPE TRIP and current leader of EDWIN MOSES and VIGIL). The album, recorded pacefully during weekend breaks in Gijon, is a combination of the atmospheres from the two previous records, "Popemas" and "Mi vida en un fin de semana". The lyrical excellence of "Popemas" is here enhanced with luxuriant arrangements and even a surprising yet brilliant collaboration with Basque singer songwriter Jabier Muguruza on the intimate "Funambulista.

ER-1118 Corazón "Melodrama"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

CORAZÓN is Carlos (vocals) and Nando (vocals, guitar and electronic beats), a romantic pop couple that, before they even had a record out, had already a ton of faithful fans. After the fuss caused by their arrival into the Spanish independent scene, at least we can introduce you to "Melodrama", the debut album by CORAZÓN, which shows a surprisingly mature sound for such young artists, and plenty references which make you think of an immaculate good taste: VAINICA DOBLE, SOLERA or José y Manuel, if we talk about Spanish music; Françoise Hardy, LADY AND BIRD, KINGS OF CONVENIENCE, Simon & Garfunkel or Nilsson, on the international side. Eleven songs that have been eagerly waited for by many of us, among which we find their early hits in the Spanish indie scene as their hymn “No quiero cambiar”. Recorded in Valencia with top producer Dani Cardona, the album shows the support and help of many of the best Spanish pop acts, such as SERPENTINA, PARADE, LA CASA AZUL, LOS MAGNETICOS, Sir Edward, etc... The first seconds of the album start with the sound of a transistor radio looking for a station; of course, it stops when it finds "Radio Corazón (102.5 FM)". By the time the moog solo arrives, you are aware that the record has started with its first wonderful tune. How we wish many other radio stations elsewhere had this wonderful taste!

ER-1117 Les Très Bien Ensemble "Doux-amer"

  6€  [CD Digipak]

Debut album by LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE, a francophile, francophone, Barcelona-based band who make good taste and elegance taken from their French pop models a reason for their existence. They share their passion for the elegance and seduction of the best French pop, from Michel Polnareff to Katerine, and of course of the unbeatable Serge Gainsbourg and his cast of fragile and/or perverse female partenaires (France Gall, Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot). As if she were one of the muses idolized by her hero Serge Gainsbourg, Suzette knows how to sing and perform sounding sexy, or childish, or both things at the same time. The album's sound is obviously rooted in the 60's classic recordings, with exuberant orchestral arrangements which seem as if they had been commissioned to a soundtrack arranger from those golden years. In fact, on the recording they have used analogic material, valve equipment and a lot of pacience in order to recreate this classic sound and transport it forward to our time, bearing a new contemporariness.

ER-1116 Cooper "Retrovisor"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

"Retrovisor" is a new COOPER album, although the band has only recorded three new songs; in short sessions, always stuck to their compromise with immediacy and spontaneity. They have been reunited in an album with other songs that have been appearing during 2003 and 2004 in different formats. Twelve songs to be a past viewfinder, a complete retro-spective. Besides, this album (which will also be released on a vinyl limited edition, only 600 copies in white vinyl and a luxuriant jacket) includes the video clips of the songs "747", "Cerca del sol" and "Cierra los ojos", as well as pictures and information about the band.

ER-1114 Trembling Blue Stars "The seven autumn flowers"

  9€  [CD]

On the fifth album of TBS, Bobby Wratten´s songs share the spirit of 70s songwriters such as JACKSON BROWNE (particularly on his most intimate and disheartening albums), or NICK DRAKE´s romanticism, along with a present day focus that adds synth-pop elements and a great deal of synth sounds (intelligently mixed with acoustic arrangements as in "If I handle you with care"), or melodic walls of sound as in "Moonlight on snow". On the production desk they are again assisted by Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE´s engineer and contributor). There´s a limited edition of this album in double 10", for vinyl lovers.

ER-1113 Le Mans "Le Mans"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

Digipak reissue, including booklet featuring the lyrics and remastered sound, of the debut album by LE MANS, originally released on Elefant Records in 1994. The first steps by LE MANS are based in unexpected influences for a Spanish band in those years (MARINE GIRLS, FELT and Cherry Red bands, Motown soul) creating a sound that would be set as a reference for a whole generation of Spanish pop bands to come behind them. Songs so simple that nowadays, when listening to them, one must wonder how come nobody had found such an effective formula before. But truth is that, in 1994, songs like “Astronautas” or “Jersey inglés” weren’t very usual in the Spanish pop scene. The album is opened by the danceable charms and the tribute to Sly Stone of “Un rayo de sol”. It is followed by more relaxed, 100% LE MANS songs such as “Jersey inglés” (with a guitar lick taken from ORANGE JUICE), “Juan” or “Al bulevar”. Another remarkable moment is “H.E.L.L.O”, which is enhanced by some shy electronic beats and the vocal collaboration of Borja from San Sebastian friends LA BUENA VIDA.

ER-1112 Le Mans "Entresemana"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

Third delivery in a series that started backwards: if last year we reissued “Aquí vivía yo” and “Saudade”, fourth and third album by LE MANS respectively, we go on with the countdown now with the re-release of the brief and magical “Entresemana”. In this case the digipak reissue, including booklet with lyrics and remastered sound, is even more appreciated, since the original released was in a slim cardboard envelope that didn’t make justice to the beauty it contained. “Entresemana” is the confirmation of all the promises that arose after listening to the debut album by LE MANS, only going much further than before: eight gorgeous songs combining JULIE LONDON’s vocal jazz with winks and tributes to Spanish cult folk duo VAINICA DOBLE (especially on the lyrics to “Perezosa y tonta”), in a moment when nobody in Spain dared acknowledging their love for this lovely folk-rock outfit... and above all, a songwriting talent and personality that can’t be equalled. A brief but simply perfect album, ahead of its time, that makes your mind dizzy with its beauty and its honesty. In the ever ascending path that followed the career of LE MANS, This second record surpasses the high levels of minimalist beauty they got with their first work. They let violin and string arrangements in their songs to increase the most lyrical side of their feelings. More than playing, it sounds as if they were caressing their instruments. A record, “Entresemana”, that you can fall for without embarrassment.

ER-1111 Le Mans "Saudade"

  9€  [CD Digipak]

LE MANS’ third album digipack reissue, re-mastered by Xavier Alarcón (VANGUARD), along with an adapted cover by Javier Aramburu and a booklet with the lyrics. This is the album that confirmed LE MANS as great song-makers. "Saudade" is a Portuguese term meaning something like "sad longing" : it is pleasant and reassuring to see how LE MANS had enough perspective to define their music in such a clear and concise and, at the same moment, original way; in fact, "Saudade" is an album to be listened to calmly, carefully, and many times, in order to capture the essence of its serene beauty. The songs are all about eternal subjects as coolness, nostalgia and disillusionment; like gray and fall postcards, as the magnificent covers that wraps it. Orchestration is austere, bare, stressing Jone´s warm and touching voice and Ibon´s guitar arpeggios, paying homage once again to the great Nick Drake.

ER-1106 Trembling Blue Stars "A certain evening light"

  6€  [CD Digipak]

This is a superb sound document: a collection of songs that so far had only been included in the singles this British band had released throughout all its career. 17 songs rescued from limited edition singles or versions different to the album ones. 'A certain evening light' is a new miracle of delicate, subtle pop; songs always pervaded with the sweet melancholy Bob endows each of his creations: transparent guitars, arrangements full of good taste, Bob's serene and moving vocals, supported by the ethereal sweetness of Beth and Anne Mari's female backing vocals. Production tasks, as usual in TREMBLING BLUE STARS, are carried out by Ian Catt, who has usually worked with ST ETIENNE and some Elefant artists such as NOSOTRÄSH, CARLOS BERLANGA and NIZA. There's a hidden track not included in the credits: 'Christmas & Train-Trips & Things', which originally appeared in a Christmas sampler given as a freebie at a Shinkansen night. Elefant's edition is a special edition in digipak.

AUTO-008 Los Soberanos "¡Fiesta sin fin!"

  9€  [CD]

Many are the ensembles who try their take on the sound of modern grooves, but unfortunately very few really devote their time to find a refreshing and cheerful style. After a twelve-year uninterrupted career, LOS SOBERANOS, ultimate representatives of the party lifestyle, are still proud bearers of the flag of fun. For all these years, they’ve given heart and soul to cover other bands’ hits and to recover the cream of Sixties music. “¡Fiesta sin fin!”, their new album, brings a new step forward, including five infectious tunes of their own that will leave no one indifferent: “Guapa”, “Pero te quiero”, “Un hombre tranquilo”, “La, La, La” (not to be mistaken with the Eurovision tune by Massiel) and “Siroco”. The rest of the songs in the record, nine dynamic covers, frankly showing off their complete lack of pretentiousness and how they love to mess about. We find LOS SOBERANOS taking Manolo Díaz for a few drinks (“Bibí”), daringly having their take on a ballad by the great Rafael Martos “Raphael” (“Estuve enamorado”), paying tribute to their beloved BRINCOS (“Pareces gitana”), plunging headlong into the waters with MICKY Y LOS TONYS (No sé nadar”), vindicating LOS PASOS (“Nací de pie”), reminding us of a forceful tune by LOS HURACANES (“El calcetín”), deciding on Italian tonalities (“Il paradiso” by Patty Pravo and “Si chiama Maria” by the essential Pino Donaggio) and crossing the Pond together with Venezuelan band LOS SUPERSÓNICOS (¿Por qué te vas?). From day one you will have a crush on this album, until you become yet another Soberano. Let’s all celebrate we enjoy such an amusing line-up in Spain, hoping they start a trend many others will follow. And the party goes on!

AUTO-007 Mirafiori "No podemos volver a casa"

  6€  [CD]

After releasing an EP on Annika Records in 2001, at least we can listen to "No podemos volver a casa", MIRAFIORI's debut album, which has been delayed due to Nacho's long stays abroad. The music in the album, recorded with the help of Guille Mostaza (from Spanish synth-pop band ELLOS) is influenced by the warmth and the harmonies of the folk and pop music from the 60's (THE BYRDS, THE LEFT BANKE), combined with a taste for classicism and the beauty in the instrumental arrangements (Isao Tomita, Erik Satie). To this we must add the eighties flavour of the drum programming, and a final touch that is as close to Spanish early indie sound (FAMILY, LA BUENA VIDA) as to British indie-pop (THE FIELD MICE, BRIAN). MIRAFIORI's lyrics, some times more symbolic and dreamy, other times more straight and direct, almost always covered with a veil of despair, join the music in an urgent search for beauty, following the tradition of the pop song patterns.

AUTO-006 VV.AA. "B.S.O. See you later cowabunga"

  6€  [CD]

"See you later Cowabunga" is a tribute to the music films from the 60’s, specially to legendary Spanish film "Un, dos, tres al escondite inglés", by cult director Iván Zulueta, and the movies Richard Lester did with THE BEATLES. All of this combined with an almost non-existent budget (around 3000 euros), and under the influence of the great underground B-movie director Jess Franco. It’s also remarkable the cameo by legendary Spanish National Radio DJ Juan de Pablos, who works as a link between the different phases in the story. As Ernesto Ronchel, composer of the score, puts it: "the songs on this album aren't but the outcome of many years listening to Juan de Pablos; all I know I have learnt from him... all about that world, now timeless, from the 50's and 60's. Since then I wanted to be a part of it, and, listening to Juan de Pablos, you could feel you were inside, or at least very close. Now it's me who writes songs and I feel I must pay tribute to all the "teachers" I've had from whom I have learnt so much: Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, Carole King, Booker T, Buddy Holly, THE BEATLES, Burt Bacharach and a thousand million more". The soundtrack, just like the movie, can be described as lysergic, schizoid, poppy, surfer, bizarre or simply weird. The movie features other cameos by Jess Franco, Lina Romay, Juan de Pablos, Pedro Temboury and Carlos Aguilar, as web as the performances of many bands such as DOCTOR EXPLOSION, AIRBAG or LOS STRAITJACKETS. And the soundtrack's music ranges from soul to sparkling pop, from easy listening to the Ramones-influenced teeny punk-pop. Again, in Ronchel's own words: "the record goes through the big variety of styles you can listen to at the radio show, from 50's doo wop to the cute electronic synth-pop that's in fashion these days, through Stax styled soul, some Françoise Hardy, Phil Spector’s wall of sound, some Gainsbourgism, home cooked Pet Sounds, Ramones guitars and many other things from the music that I love".

AUTO-005 Los Soberanos "Maratón ye-yé"

At least we can enjoy their exquisite selection of Sixties songs, with the best sound recording you can imagine. Songs by Bruno Lomas, Juan y Junior, Rocío Dúrcal, LOS MUSTANG, Arthur Alexander, Caterina Caselli, etc, performed by a modern band specialized in the ye-ye sound. The crowd enjoys their sixties covers. The modern society surrenders. The record features as well a videoclip where LOS SOBERANOS perform “Yo no tengo a nadie”, originally by the great Raphael. Surprise your guests who come to the next meeting at your house. Fill the bar appropriately, prepare some snacks, dress up for the party and don’t stop dancing with “Maratón Ye-yé”.
